SB34 :: Port of Call

As he walked through the areas of commerce and entertainment with Ens Panettiere, he took in the sites and sounds that reminded him of the malls on Earth. They passed by the different craft shops and mercantiles on their way to the uniform outfitter that custom made the DCinC's uniforms, and entered the establishment. The tailor was a short stocky human female, with a bright smile. She welcomed them as they entered.

Patti Williams: Hello, and welcome to my parlor gentlemen. How may I help you today, Captain?

E.J. smiled and responded.

Capt Carpathia: The DCinC sent me here with a special request. That my Yeoman here be fitted for Starfleet Officer uniforms for all occasions. He was promoted today, and we can't have him walking around impersonating enlisted personnel.

She looked down at Ens Panettiere and smiled quite wide.

Patti Williams: Oh my goodness, isn't he precious!? I could just eat him up alive! Oh we must get him fitted! Right away! Come here young man and get up on this pedestal and let me measure you.

He looked down at Ens Panettiere and nodded, with a smile.

He looked up at the Captain, then at the woman and smiled. He walked over to the pedestal and leaped on top of it and stood there.

Ens Panettiere: Ready to be measured, ma'am.

He waited for her to do what she does to make him the uniforms that he needed.

He watched as she buzzed around his Yeoman, humming a song and measuring him from every possible angle and entered the data into her PADD. When she was done, she smiled and patted Panettiere on his behind.

Patti Williams: You're done, Sweetie. I'll get to work on a duty uniform right away, it shouldn't take me long to get one ready. You both can get something to eat over in the food court and I'll let you know when I've finished, okay?

E.J. smiled at her, and responded.

Capt Carpathia: That would be fine, I'm getting a little hungry myself.

He looked towards Ens Panettiere.

Capt Carpathia: Want to get something to eat?

E.J. waited for his response.

He was starving! He hopped off the pedestal and ran over to the Captain.

Ens Panettiere: Yes, Sir! I'm starving. I was looking forward to eating at the party in the Officers Lounge, but then when Lt. Trylon's stomach exploded and I slipped in alien snot, I kind of lost my appetite. But it's back now, with a vengeance!

He laughed and couldn't wait to get something to eat in the food court.

He lead Ens Panettiere over to the food court and left the tailor to her work. There were many different styles of food available. From traditional meals found on Earth, to ones that spanned the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and even as far as the Delta Quadrant. He looked around at the wide variety and really couldn't decide. He gave Ens Panettiere the call.

Capt Carpathia: What are you hungry for, Ensign?

He hoped the young one wasn't going to want to try something crazy, he didn't really have the stomach for some of the exotic foods that were available.

He looked at all the difference places to eat, until he spotted one that had the type of food he wanted.

Ens Panettiere: How about Spaghetti?

He hoped the Captain liked Italian food as much as he did.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the Yeoman's choice. He looked over at the Italian cafe's neon style sign, which read Mama Marino's Casa di Pasta.

Capt Carpathia: An excellent choice, I've heard good things about that place. Nothing is replicated, everything is actually handmade. We shall enjoy it.

He smiled and escorted the Ensign to the entry of the cafe, and waited to be seated. A few moments later, a man dressed as a host greeted them.

Cafe Host: Welcome to Mama Marino's, would you like to dine inside, or out on the terrace?

E.J. looked at the nice seating area outside the cafe, and made his choice.

Capt Carpathia: The terrace would be fine.

The host took two menus and escorted them to a table that overlooked the entire food court. He placed the menus down on the table and smiled.

Cafe Host: There you go, Captain. Your waiter's name is Mario, and he will be with your shortly.

E.J. nodded to the host as he hurried off, and took his seat at the table and picked up the menu.

Capt Carpathia: Everything on here sounds delicious! Good choice, Ensign .

He smiled across the table at him.

He smiled back at the Captain and read the menu. Everything did sound delicious. He found what he wanted on the menu and placed it down and waited for the waiter to arrive. As he sat there, a server came by and brought them ice water, and then quickly went about his duties. He took a sip of the cold water and looked around the food court at all the other Starfleet personnel, with their families. The many different alien races that were from everywhere he could think of. Their waiter came to the table and greeted them.

Mario: Hello, I'm Mario. I'll be your waiter. Is there anything I can get you to drink before you order?

Ens Panettiere: I'm ready to order now. I would like the spaghetti and meatballs, please.

Mario: Would you like soup or salad with that?

He thought for a moment.

Ens Panettiere: What kind of soup do you have ?

Mario: We have minestrone that is rich and thick with vegetables.

He made an odd face, and changed his mind.

Ens Panettiere: I want a salad, with the zesty creamy Italian dressing on it.

Mario: Alright, Sir. Would you like freshly baked rolls, or garlic bread with your spaghetti?

Ens Panettiere: Garlic bread...and can we have those sticks with the cheese inside that you dip in the sauce?

Mario: Garlic bread, and one order of fried mozzerella sticks with marinara sauce. Is that all for you?

Ens Panettiere: Yep. That's it.

The waiter took his menu, then looked at the Captain for his order.

He looked at the waiter and placed his order.

Capt Carpathia: I would like the baked beef and sausage lasagna, and a salad with the same dressing on it as the Ensign. Garlic bread would be fine, and I'll stick with the water too.

Mario: Alright, Captain. I'll be back with your salads and the mozzerella sticks.

The waiter took his menu and hurried off to fill their orders. As he sat there waiting for the salads and the side order to arrive. He engaged in idle chat with Ens Panettiere.

Capt Carpathia: What did you think of Vice Admiral Arayuss?

He waited for the Ensign's response.

As he placed his napkin on his lap, he replied to the Captain.

Ens Panettiere: I thought he was really cool. But I had never seen what he looked like before. I only read about the adventures of the Explorer, how it disappeared for almost a year and it's return from the Andromeda Galaxy. I saw his ears, but he doesn't act like a Vulcan like Dr. Sarrlak. I know he's been around for a while, but he looks like he's maybe 2 years older than me. Why is that?

He looked at the Captain with curious eyes.
