Doing as Capt Sull had ordered, Charrothe used his Sec/Tac Console to do what Ens Ramius would've done at the Ops Station. The young Bajoran officer wondered why the Captain was ordering him to do the transferring of power, but Charrothe was not about to question his Commanding Officer on the Bridge of her Starship.

Lt. JG Kaaha: Right away, Ma'am!

The Chief Sec/Tac Officer shut down all non essential sections and transferred power to a holding area of storage energy cells in case the need for extra power became paramount. Perhaps Capt Sull didn't think Ens Ramius was up to the challenge? Whatever the case may be, the Lieutenant JG handled it since he was able to access the Ops Console controls from his station on the Bridge.

Marcus looked at the Assault Phaser Rifle the Security Personnel had allowed him to select and wondered what good it would do on a creature made of silicon. The body of a Xenomorph was extremely resilient to energy weapons, making what the Captain had distributed, completely useless. The Lieutenant thought he would perhaps inform Capt Sull of this oversight, but seeing the comfort the weapons had brought the other members of the Bridge crew, Marcus could see why she ordered Lt. JG Kaaha to have them distributed throughout the ship. It was not for protection, but for morale. Turning towards the center of the Command Deck, the Lieutenant informed the Captain of what he thought of her decision.

Lt. Aurelius: A wise choice, Captain.

With that being said, the Chief Science Officer powered up his weapon and placed it beside his console so it could be easily accessible should the need arise. Marcus knew there was very little chance a Xenomorph would gain access to the Bridge, but if the weapons made the crew feel safe, the Lieutenant would go along with this charade. What did trouble Lt. Aurelius was how the Captain was preparing the ship for battle, as if the creatures had the ability to commandeer a vessel and use it to attack the other ships of the fleet that were in orbit. Marcus was not sure if this was just another distraction for the crew or was the Captain really that unaware of what the Xenomorphs capability were.

Mateo acknowledged the Captain's orders, but was curious where the battle was taking place since none of the Federation ships ahead of them were taking any defensive postures. The Lieutenant wasn't sure on what to do, so Mateo just did as she ordered and said nothing else.

Lt. Gutiérrez: Yes, Captain! I'll stop us at fifty thousand kilometers from the rest of the Fleet when we arrive, Ma'am!

The Chief Flight Control Officer already had Eureka's course set, so Mateo didn't need to make any changes. But the Lieutenant still used his console to check for any weapons fire ahead of them, above New Bajor. Not seeing anything but the ships of the Fleet on his Navigational sensors, left Lt. Gutiérrez quite confused.

Executive Officer's Quarters - Deck 1  Reply with quote

Claire heard the text message arrive on her PADD that was on her nightstand and took a look at it. The text was from Capt Sull and informed the Commander that they were just minutes away from dropping out of Warp, along with getting ready to remain clear of the battle the Fleet may be having with the Xenomorphs. This made Cmdr Bennet shake her head as she rose up from her bed and straightened out her uniform. Claire walked out of her cabin and into the corridor to take the Turbolift one deck down to the Bridge. Entering the Command Deck, the Commander took her place in the chair to the right of Capt Sull. Speaking in a hushed tone, Claire spoke to the Captain.

Cmdr Bennet: Captain? You must not have read the dossier on the Xenomorphs. They are instinctual creatures, not sentient. They do not have the capabilities for space travel or any other kind for that matter. They're kind of like sharks, they basically eat and make little Xenomorphs. I don't feel there will be a need to go to any state of battle readiness under these circumstances.

The XO looked around the Bridge and saw the Assault Phaser Rifles that was distributed to the officers at their stations and figured Capt Sull was appeasing their fears of the creatures possibly coming aboard Eureka. That had to be why a Security Officer dropped off a rifle in her room while she was lying in bed. Claire wasn't asleep when the officer came by, the XO just had him enter and drop off the short barrelled rifle on her desk. Knowing these kinds of weapons were useless against the Xenomorphs, even if one came aboard, there was no reason for Cmdr Bennet to carry it to the Bridge with her.

Azeri in turn replied in a very hushed voice to Cmdr Bennet.

Capt Sull: Actually, Commander. You are more of a dossier in these creatures than any datanode... The weapons and readiness is more for the crews morale than anything else. Fail to prepare and all that jazz.

The Captain was glad Cmdr Bennett was able to return to the Bridge after all that was happening, now and in the past.

Capt Sull: Have you met our new Chief Morale Officer?

Smiling ever so slightly, her gaze indicated the young Yeoman beside them.

Capt Sull: I'm glad you are feeling better, Commander .. but if you need more time, please do take it. I'm sure there's not going to be a battle while you're taking a health day... But suffice to say, you know a lot more than any information that could be falsified.

Azeri turned back towards the Flight Control Station, without a word to the officer situated there, she could see the instrumentation showing the clips, they couldn't be more than 2 minutes away from dropping to Impulse Power now.

Claire smiled at Gus and winked at the young Ensign. The Yeoman was beaming with pride at his new position which brought a smile to his youthful face. This made the Commander smile even though she couldn’t help but think of the loss of her own younger brother.

Cmdr Bennet: I believe I’ve met him once or twice before. It’s nice to meet you again Chief Morale Officer, Ensign Montoya.

Looking back at Capt Sull, Claire nodded to show that she was feeling alright for the moment.

Cmdr Bennet: I will help you as best I can with these creatures, but one thing for sure is they have never been predictable. They’re incredibly hostile, cannot be reasoned with and have no sense of morality whatsoever. They’re literally Hell-Spawn demons with only killing on their minds.

The XO was feeling somewhat flustered while she was talking about the Xenomorphs. Claire felt being around the Bridge crew is what she needed right now, so she fought back the tears of her loss. Looking at how happy Gus was reminded Cmdr Bennet of her brother who died so young. Rane’s death was surely a tragedy in her life that she would never-ever forget.

Gus smiled back at Cmdr Bennet, knowing how bad she must be feeling as she was remember her younger brother. If etiquette would allow it, the Ensign would give the Commander a big hug. But that would just not be proper on the Bridge of the USS Eureka, regardless of the circumstances. Still, Gus could feel the XO's grief and felt he should express it to her.

Ens Montoya: I'm so sorry about your brother, Commander. I really am. I wish I got to know him personally, I bet he was a really cool person to know.

The Yeoman continued smiling at the Executive Officer in hopes that he would raise her spirits. Gus never lost anyone close in his life, so he had no basis for comparison with her level of sadness. Still, the Ensign wanted to cheer the XO up and was hoping that by smiling and being cheerful that he would accomplish that. After all, Gus was now the Chief Moral Officer.

Claire smiled as she wiped a tear from her eye and thanked Gus for his compassion for her considerable loss. To lose one's only sibling at such a young age was a horrible feeling. It was not something the Commander thought anyone could shake off anytime soon.

Cmdr Bennet: Thank you so much, Gus. I really appreciate your kind words. My brother was one of the coolest persons I've ever known. Rane was the best gift my parents ever gave me.

The Commander looked over towards Capt Sull to see if the CO had anything to ask about the Xenomorphs that needed to be explained.

Cmdr Bennet: If you have any questions about the Xenomorphs, do not hesitate to ask me, Captain. It looks like I'm the foremost authority on them aboard Eureka.

Claire looked around the Bridge and could see the anxiousness of the officers not knowing what they were getting into. The XO knew why the Captain issued the orders she did, after all, Eureka was not a capital ship, but a support vessel. The crew was accustomed to just doing scientific research and second contact missions. The last thing they expected to be on was a mission of this magnitude.

The young Ensign remained smiling at Cmdr Bennet as he looked over at Capt Sull who appeared to have fallen asleep in her chair on the Bridge. Gus thought it was really odd for the Captain to be taking a nap at a time like this, so he whispered to the Commander as to not awaken the sleeping CO.

Ens Montoya: Looks like Captain Sull has fallen asleep, Commander. But it is an odd time for the Captain to be taking a nap. We are almost to New Bajor. Should we wake her up, Ma'am?

The Yeoman found it hard to believe Capt Sull would be napping at a time like this and thought perhaps something could be medically wrong with the Captain. Gus hoped Cmdr Bennet would do something to wake the CO since they would be dropping out of Warp any moment to approach the location of the ships of Gamma Fleet that were waiting for their arrival to assist in the evacuation of New Bajor.

Claire looked over at Capt Sull, whose eyes were closed, and thought it was strange for her CO to be sleeping at this time. Tapping the Captain on her forearm, the XO leaned in and tried waking the CO.

Cmdr Bennet: Captain? We’ll be dropping out of Warp any moment now. Are you awake?

After a few moments passed by without a response, the XO leaned in and tried waking the Captain once more.

Cmdr Bennet: Captain, are you alright?

Still not getting anything from Capt Sull, the Commander became concerned and reached for the Captain’s wrist and felt for the CO’s pulse. To Claire’s surprise, Capt Sull’s heart rate was considerably low, so the XO tapped her Combadge to call for Dr. Edison, the Chief Medical Officer aboard Eureka!

Cmdr Bennet: Bennet to Dr. Edison, medical emergency on the Bridge! Come here at once, Doctor! The Captain needs your help!

While waiting on the Doctor to arrive, Claire turned to Lt. Gutiérrez and requested the amount of time before they reached the fleet above New Rakantha.

Cmdr Bennet: Mateo, how long before we reach the fleet?!

The XO found the situation with Capt Sull to be quite alarming and continued waiting on Dr. Edison to arrive on the Bridge with his Medkit. Claire barely got to know the Captain and now the CO was already incapacitated during their first mission together. This left the Commander feeling quite exasperated over the thought of having to get to know another Commanding Officer for herself and the crew she’s come to know on a first name basis over their time together on so many support missions throughout the Alpha Quadrant.
