Ulric was saddened that there were no other children for Gus to hang around with while he was off duty, but after living in the Gamma Quadrant for quite some time at Starbase 34 the Commander knew there was plenty of children for the young officer to spend time with there.

Cmdr Sladek: I’m sorry there aren’t other kids aboard to be around and play soccer with. After living on Starbase 34 for quite awhile, I can tell you there are many children your age living on the base that would love to get to know you. The Starbase is my second home and I always love spending time there. But I’m very interested where we’re going next on the tour. Your knowledge of this great ship is near impeccable for a youth so young and wise. I’m very glad to have you as a resource to us all.

The XO was really curious to see where the young Yeoman was going to lead him next. Ulric was really enjoying the tour so far and was looking forward to learning more about the California Class vessel. For a smaller Starship, Eureka sure had a lot to offer! Cmdr Sladek really felt he was going to enjoy his assignment as First Officer aboard this ship under the command of Capt Bennet.

Gus decided there was no point in showing Cmdr Sladek the Shuttlebays on Deck 9 since he came from a Nebula Class Starship which had several of their own. The Ensign figured once the Commander seen one, he’s seen them all. So Ens Montoya thought he would bring Cmdr Sladek to Sickbay to meet Dr. Edison and he could see firsthand the parents of Lt. JG Kaaha that the Commander helped to rescue from certain doom down in the power facility on New Bajor. After hearing what Cmdr Sladek had to say about SB34, Gus was even more excited to get there and meet all the other children living on the base.

Ens Montoya: I cannot wait to get to Starbase 34 and meet all the children living there! Thank you for your words of encouragement, Commander! They really mean a lot to me! We’re going up one deck now to Sickbay where I’ll introduce you to Dr. Maxwell Edison and you can see Lieutenant Kaaha’s parents that you helped rescue.

Heading away from the Squash Court, the two of them walked to the Turbolift and took it up to Deck 8 where they exited and strolled down the corridor to Sickbay and entered. Inside they could see the Lieutenant JG standing between his parents on their Biobeds and Dr. Edison over in the ICU area with Capt Sull. Gus led the way over to the Doctor and introduced them to each other.

Ens Montoya: Dr. Edison? This is Commander Sladek, our new XO. He’s the one who initiated the search for Lieutenant Kaaha’s family down on New Bajor. Commander, this is our Doctor. He’s the one who successfully removed the Xenomorph embryos from the Lieutenant’s parents.

The Yeoman stood between Cmdr Sladek and Dr. Edison and smiled while they exchanged their greetings for one another. While they spoke, Gus walked over to look at Capt Sull in her coma. The Ensign wondered if she would ever be back to normal or would the Captain remain in a convalescent state for the rest of her life. Ens Montoya figured Capt Sull would get all the help she needed at SB34, and if she needed even more medical care they would transport her to a facility that could care for all her needs. Gus didn’t know if the Captain had family, so he made a mental note to ask Capt Bennet about it when he had the chance. Surely Capt Sull’s family would like to know of her condition.

Ulric reached out and shook the hand of Dr. Edison as he spoke to the Chief Medical Officer…

Cmdr Sladek: It’s a pleasure to meet you Dr. Edison and great to see some wonderful medical work on your part.

The XO looked over at Lt. JG Kaaha’s parents next and noticed they were both still asleep so the Commander walked over to where the Yeoman was and looked at the former Captain in her coma. Not knowing her well and very little about her ailment, all Cmdr Sladek could do was say a small Nordic prayer wishing Capt Sull better health.

After shaking the Commander's hand, Maxwell smiled at the kind words the XO said to him. Dr. Edison had served with Capt Bennet as the XO for years so it was good to see her finally get the promotion she deserved. It was just a shame it came at the cost of Capt Sull's medical condition. The Doctor saw that Cmdr Sladek was watching over the former Captain with interest, along with Ens Montoya, so Maxwell joined them.

Cmdr Edison: Apparently, Captain Sull had a hemorrhagic stroke that caused massive trauma to her brain. She will receive the best care possible when we reach Starbase 34. It will most likely be some time before the Captain can be medically discharged back to active service. I'm sure your prayer will help, Captain Sull can use all the positive thoughts and prayers she can get. It's a miracle the Captain survived the stroke, they are usually fatal if not treated quickly.

The Doctor stood with Cmdr Sladek and Ens Montoya for a few moments before walking over to the parents of Lt. JG Kaaha to check their vitals. They were both doing very well and would be waking up soon, which Dr. Edison shared with the Lieutenant JG as he remained steadfast between his parents.

Cmdr Edison: Their vitals are looking really good, Lieutenant. They should both be awake shortly. I'm sure they will be very appreciative to see you once they awake.

The Chief Medical Officer went back to the desk in his office and finished the medical reports he had been working on before Cmdr Sladek and Ens Montoya entered Sickbay. Maxwell wasn't far from any of his patients should their conditions change. If any of them were to regain consciousness, Dr. Edison would be notified immediately by the medical monitors on their Biobeds. If the XO and Yeoman had any further questions, they would have to come into the Doctor's office and speak to him there since it would be improper for them to yell across Sickbay to get his attention.

Charrothe smiled back at Dr. Edison when he heard the news his parents' vitals were looking really good! The Lieutenant JG knew his brother Jerdan would be thrilled to hear that as well! Making sure the com channel was still open between them, Charrothe called out to his younger sibling.

Lt. JG Kaaha: Jerdan, are you still there? I just heard from Dr. Edison that Mom and Dad's vitals are looking good and they should be awake shortly! Isn't that great news!?

A momentary pause came before the voice of the young Mr. Orte was heard...

Orte Jerdan: Wow, Brother! That is fantastic news! I can't wait to reunite with all of you! I just want to make sure all the children down here are beamed up to a ship before I leave. Since you're all aboard Eureka, and that's the last ship to arrive her according to Captain Lopez, it will be the last vessel beaming up survivors. So I'll be coming up there to be with you as soon as the last child beams up from here to Eureka. Hopefully that will be soon!

The Lieutenant JG nodded in agreement to the voice of his younger brother...

Lt. JG Kaaha: You got that right, Jerdan! I know Mom and Dad will be excited to see you as soon as it's possible!

Charrothe turned towards Cmdr Sladek to thank him for all he did to reunite the Lieutenant JG with his parents, and hopefully his little brother in a short amount of time.

Lt. JG Kaaha: Thank you so very much, Commander! I appreciate what you've done for my family! I'll never forget what you did for all of us!

The Chief Sec/Tac Officer smiled towards at Cmdr Sladek and Ens Montoya as they stood by the Biobed with Capt Sull laying unconscious on it. The Lieutenant JG wondered when she was going to return to duty and if she would still be the CO of Eureka or be assigned to another position in Gamma Fleet somewhere. Adm Arayuss certainly seemed like he was right on top of the situation so Charrothe knew it was going to be handled in a delicate manner, not in an abrupt way like Adm Boday did things. Lt. JG Kaaha respected the previous Admiral they were under the command of, but as for liking the man, Boday left a lot to be desired.

Ulric looked at the Lieutenant JG and smiled as he spoke to the Chief Sec/Tac Officer…

Cmdr Sladek: I’m glad I could help reunite your family, Lieutenant. However, I must leave Sickbay and continue the tour being given by Ensign Montoya.

The Commander walked over towards the Doctor’s Office and looked inside.

Cmdr Sladek: Dr. Edison, it was a pleasure to meet you. I must now take my leave and continue the tour of Eureka.

Ulric turned and looked towards Ens Montoya and spoke to the youthful Yeoman…

Cmdr Sladek: Lead the way, Ensign. I’m in your capable hands.

The XO walked over and stood by the doors that led to the corridor outside Sickbay and waited on the Ensign to accompany Cmdr Sladek to their next destination. The Commander was really enjoying his tour of Eureka and looked forward to wherever the Yeoman was going to take him on the continuing tour of the California Class Starship.

Gus smiled as he led Cmdr Sladek down the corridor to the Mess Hall, where the food Replicators were serving meals to the crew. When they entered, the Ensign pointed to the food processors and spoke in a comical way to the Commander.

Ens Montoya: This is the place, where the crew stuffs their face! If you're hungry for anything, this is the place to go! The Replicators here have an extensive library of cuisines from all over the galaxy. Even the things you had me program into your personal Replicator are available here. So if you want to stop the tour for a while and get something to eat, this would be the time, Sir.

The Yeoman hoped the XO was hungry, because Gus sure was! The Ensign felt he was due for some tacos, burritos and perhaps a quesadilla! All of which were made in an authentic Mexican fashion. Ens Montoya looked up with his dark brown eyes at the tall blond haired, blue eyed Cmdr Sladek and hoped the pleading look of hunger would rub off on the Executive Officer.

The Commander was hungry after all the walking around throughout the ship and after looking down into the Ensign’s puppy dog eyes, how could he deny him something to eat?

Cmdr Sladek: I can definitely go for something to eat! I haven’t eaten since we left Starbase 34 on this mission! Plus, how could I say no to those eyes?

Ulric went to the Replicator and ordered a big steak with a loaded baked potato, a hot roll with butter, and an ice-cold cola in a frosted glass.

Cmdr Sladek: I got myself a steak, just the way I like it! What are you going to have, Ensign?

The XO took his tray of food, and found a place for the young Ensign and himself to sit in the mess hall. Ulric was amazed by all the food selections right at the order of his voice. The Commander watched the Ensign ordering his meal as Cmdr Sladek planned to use this time to get to know Gus more than just the boy’s love of soccer.

Gus went to the Replicator after Cmdr Sladek was finished ordering and took his tray to find a table for the two of them to sit and eat. The Ensign requested two beef tacos with all the fixings, a beef and cheese burrito, and a three cheese quesadilla. As for something to drink, Gus too got himself an ice-cold cola in a frosted glass. Once everything the Ensign ordered appeared on a tray, he took it from the Replicator and walked over to where the Commander found them a place to sit and Gus placed his tray down on the table before taking his seat.

Ens Montoya: Your steak looks delicious, Commander! I got myself some tacos, a burritos, and a three cheese quesadilla! Plus I got an ice-cold cola in a frosted glass too!

Sitting down at the table, the Yeoman started in on his meal with the gusto of a hungry Mexican boy! While Gus ate, he waited for anything the XO wanted to talk about at the table. The Ensign was open to anything Cmdr Sladek wished to discuss with him, be it about Eureka or his own personal life. Ens Montoya was an open book of information just waiting to be accessed.

Ulric watched the Ensign sit down at the table and welcomed the young officer.

Cmdr Sladek: Welcome, Ensign. I would guess by seeing your tray that Mexican food is your favorite. Please tell me more about yourself, other than liking soccer. What do you do for fun? Like your hobbies, family, et cetera? How did you get into the Star Cadet Program?

The Commander watched as the Ensign was devouring the food on his plate as he waited for Gus to respond.

Cmdr Sladek: Your meal looks good too, Ensign. How do you like your tacos? I like mine spicy, so when I pass gas it makes a pretty smell. I look forward to more of the tour! I wonder where we will go next?

Enjoying the juicy steak Ulric ordered for himself, he continued talking to Ens Montoya when his mouth was devoid of food as to not appear to be crude.

Cmdr Sladek: Ensign, one thing that amazes me is your vast array of knowledge being so young. Like hospitality. Where did learn about all these things?

The XO continued with is meal and enjoyed his loaded baked potato as well. Everything Ulric ordered from the Replicator came out perfectly. At the rate the Yeoman was going through the food on his plate, it was a foregone conclusion Gus found his meal just as enjoyable. Cmdr Sladek waited on Ens Montoya to start responding to his inquiries so he could learn more about the boy. Ulric figured it was going to be an interesting learning experience for himself, to say the least.
