Mission 4 - Rendezvous at New Bajor  Reply with quote

E.J. stepped off the Turbolift and onto the Bridge when he saw that all eyes were upon him. Looking over towards Cmdr Delgado and seeing him nodding, the Commodore knew Infiniti was prepped and ready to go. Crossing over to his seat on the Bridge, Como Carpathia sat in his chair and began issuing orders to his Command Crew.

Como Carpathia: Mr. Trylon, retract the Gangway and secure us from all moorings! Contact Dock Traffic Control and inform them we’ve got emergency clearance to launch from Admiral Arayuss! Also, let them know Explorer needs to be cleared as well because it’s coming along with us!

The CO waited to hear from LtCmdr Trylon on the status of their clearance to the Space Doors. Once that had been established, the Commodore would be ordering Lt. Florenté to use the maneuvering thrusters to back Infiniti out of its berth and do the rotation on their axis and point the bow towards the Space Doors, then it would only take a minute or two before they’d be out in space, free to navigate to the Outer Markers.

William was monitoring all the systems on the Ops Console when Como Carpathia entered the Bridge, since Cmdr Delgado ordered him to have the channel open for Dock Traffic Control, LtCmdr Trylon only had to call out to them after he retracted the Gangway and cleared all the moorings. Once that was done, William used the Communications panel to inform DTC Infiniti was ready to depart.

Lt. Commander Trylon: Dock Traffic Control, this is USS Infiniti. We're requesting emergency clearance to the Space Doors under the authorization of Admiral Arayuss for USS Explorer as well.

SB-34 Traffic Control: USS Infiniti, Dock Traffic Control here. You and USS Explorer are both clear to the Space Doors. Bon voyage!

Lt. Commander Trylon: Commodore, both Explorer and Infiniti have been cleared to the Space Doors! Explorer is already backing out, Sir. Looks like it is going to be first out the doors, Commodore.

The Chief Operations Officer continued to monitor Explorer's departure, which was considerably faster than other vessels because of its Artificial Intelligence and how it can virtually do everything itself. The self-aware Intrepid Class Starship spun quickly on its axis and made for the doors leaving Infiniti room to maneuver and do the same inside the Space Dock.

The Commodore smiled at the competitiveness of Explorer wanting to get out of the Space Doors first. Once Explorer passed through the open doors, the route was clear for Infiniti. E.J. looked straight ahead where Lt. Florenté was seated at the Flight Control Console and issued the next set of orders to the Lieutenant.

Como Carpathia: Joey, it's that time! Back us out slowly, spin us on our axis and take us out of the Space Doors. Make it so!

The CO watched on the Main Viewscreen as Infiniti was clear to leave its berth. Keeping his eyes forward, E.J. was also able to see Lt. Florenté working his console like a concert pianist! The young pilot obviously was taught by Aléjandro, who was by far, the best pilot in Gamma Fleet. Como Carpathia could almost sense Cmdr Delgado's desire to run over and take the controls of Infiniti and fly the ship himself!

Joey did what the Commodore ordered him to and backed Infiniti out of its berth slowly as he used the maneuvering thrusters. Once the ship was out of the docking area, Lt. Florenté used the thrusters to spin the ship around so the bow was facing the Space Doors. Joey picked up the pace a little as he piloted Infiniti forward and straight out of the doors into space they went! Now that they were free to navigate, the Lieutenant activated the Impulse Drive and waited on Como Carpathia to order a course to be set.

Lt. Florenté: We're free to navigate, Commodore! Ready to set a course at your discretion, Sir.

On the viewscreen was USS Explorer standing by to follow Infiniti to its destination. As both Intrepid Class vessels moved slowly towards the Outer Markers, Joey waited on the Commodore to announce their destination so the Chief Flight Control Officer could input the data into the flight computer. Once a course was set, Joey would engage the Impulse Engines to the Outer Markers where he could switch to the Warp Engines in order to bring them to their final destination.

E.J. knew they still needed to contact SB34's Approach Control in order to clear them to the Outer Markers, so the Commodore instructed LtCmdr Trylon to contact SB34 and get the clearance necessary so that Lt. Florenté could engage the Impulse Engines.

Como Carpathia: William, contact Approach Control and alert them to our situation and clearance level. Joey, standby...

The CO waited for LtCmdr Trylon to get Explorer and Infiniti the clearance they needed to move swiftly to the Outer Markers so they could jump to the maximum speed of Warp 9.99! Explorer had the same rating system of it's Warp Engines so it would be able to match Infiniti's speed to New Bajor.

William immediately contacted SB34's Approach Control to get both Explorer and Infiniti the clearance they needed to proceed to the Outer Markers. From there they would be able to use the Warp Drive to rapidly get to their destination.

Lt. Commander Trylon: Aye Sir!

The Lieutenant Commander tapped his Communication Panel on his console and contacted the Approach Control of SB34.

Lt. Commander Trylon: Approach Control, this is USS Infiniti requesting emergency clearance to the Outer Markers for this ship and USS Explorer on the authority of Admiral Arayuss!

SB34 Approach Control: Infiniti, this is Approach Control. You and Explorer have been given emergency clearance to the markers, proceed at full Impulse power. May the wind be at your backs!

Lt. Commander Trylon: We have emergency clearance to proceed at full Impulse power, Commodore!

The Chief Operations Officer watched his power allocation console, making sure Infiniti's Impulse Engines had all the power they needed to go to full speed to the Outer Markers. Traveling at maximum velocity would get Explorer and Infiniti to New Bajor in a matter of minutes, so William began the process to give the Science Station all the power it would need to run a full scan of the city of New Rakantha.

E.J. was happy to hear they had the clearance necessary to use full Impulse power to get to the Outer Markers. This would cut down on the time it would take to get to New Bajor considerably. The Commodore was grateful for LtCmdr Trylon's efforts at expressing the need for emergency clearance and thanked William for it before giving orders to Lt. Florenté.

Como Carpathia: Thank you, William. You did a great job! Joey, set a course to New Bajor, full Impulse power to the Outer Markers. Once we're clear of the markers, engage the Warp Drive and proceed at Warp 9.99! Whitestar needs us there in a hurry, so we have no time to waste.

The Commodore waited for the Chief Flight Control Officer to bring Infiniti to their highest speed the Impulse Engines could muster before they reached the outer frontier of SB34's control area. Using the console between Cmdr Delgado and himself, E.J. calculated the ETA to New Bajor and arrived at an estimate of 20 minutes. Once they were on their way by use of the Warp Drive, Como Carpathia would contact Capt Daqtorgh and give him their ETA so he knew Explorer and Infiniti would be arriving shortly.

The Lieutenant entered their destination into the NAV-COM and set their course for New Bajor as Joey increased their speed from full maneuvering thrusters to the Impulse Engines. While moving at full Impulse power the Outer Markers came up rather quickly and in a matter of moments, Infiniti was clear of them. Taking the Impulse Engines offline, Lt. Florenté engaged the Warp Drive and with a blast of light, Infiniti accelerated to Warp 9.99! With their ETA only being 20 minutes from New Bajor, Joey alerted the Commodore they were officially at the velocity he ordered.

Lt. Florenté: We're at Warp 9.99, Commodore! ETA to New Bajor, twenty minutes!

Using the short range sensors available on his console, Joey detected that Explorer was following right along at the exact same velocity as Infiniti. The Lieutenant passed the information to the Center Console between Como Carpathia and Cmdr Delgado so they could see Explorer was right alongside them. The Chief Flight Control Officer monitored their course and made sure there was nothing in their path to New Bajor. Joey could see why Cmdr Delgado enjoyed piloting Infiniti so much...

E.J. was pleased to hear they were currently en route to New Bajor at Infiniti's maximum speed. Now the Commodore needed to let Capt Daqtorgh know they were on their way and just under 20 minutes away from New Bajor. This way the Captain could prepare for their arrival by making any necessary arrangements he needed to make.

Como Carpathia: Thank you, Joey! Great job! William, send a message to Whitestar and let them know we're just under twenty minutes out from New Bajor. Be sure to mention Explorer is accompanying us and that Oriskany and Sutherland will be joining us all shortly.

With that out of the way, E.J. relaxed in his chair and looked over at Cmdr Delgado and smiled knowing this was Aléjandro's first assignment as Executive Officer. The XO seemed all but content however, so the Commodore surmised Cmdr Delgado must be missing his days as Chief Flight Control Officer of Infiniti. Being at the Flight Control Station would've given Aléjandro the feeling of being the driver of the vehicle and now being in the XO's chair had him feeling like a passenger in the back seat. This was an affliction that would pass in time. E.J. went through the same feeling when he was the Chief Engineer before being promoted to XO aboard Explorer while Adm Arayuss was still a Captain. Those were some adventurous days!

William followed the Commodore's orders and proceeded to send the message to Whitestar. Once the message was sent, LtCmdr Trylon informed Como Carpathia.

Lt. Commander Trylon: Message sent, Commodore! They should receive it in just a few moments. Standing by for a response, Sir.

The Chief Operations Officer continued to monitor all systems at his station while waiting on a reply from Whitestar. All systems were reporting nominal activity, so that kept LtCmdr Trylon content. Serving aboard Infiniti has always been the highlight of William's life. But it was not something he wanted to do forever and often thought about returning home to Paris, France and living out his years appreciating 17th century European artwork. But William was here and this is where his primary focus was.
