Intensive Care Unit - Medical Deck  Reply with quote

Dragana continuously worked on Capt Reich to the best of her abilities, but his condition was slowly heading for a terminal state. Dr. Jovic summoned the assistance of the other Doctors and Nurses in the ICU and even with their help, they could not change the Captain's medical prognosis. She had never felt so helpless when dealing with a patient's condition. Just then the Doctor saw Alexander Windsor enter the ICU, which told Dragana that Oriskany must be docked in it's berth inside the giant Space Dock.

Lt. Commander Jovic: I wish I had better news for you, Alexander. His condition has not improved in the slightest. Please have a seat over there by Captain Reich, that way you will not obstruct any of the Medical Staff working on the Captain.

The Doctor watched the solemn boy take the seat she asked him to take beside Capt Reich. It was obvious that Alexander was very distraught over the Captain losing his battle with his terminal condition. Dragana knew it was only a matter of time before Sean's end would come. She could really feel the compassion the boy was expressing, and it was getting to her too. Her eyes became misty as she did what she could to conceal her grief from the others. As a Doctor, Dragana was not supposed to become emotionally attached to her patients and here she was trying desperately to hide her tears from the Medical Staff. She knew the boy could see her small display of tears, but since he had streaks of his own running down his face, Dragana knew Alexander would not be judging her.

Pi'Lar looked down at her PADD once more, this had to be the Medical Deck... There was unmistakable aroma of antiseptics and bleach in the air. She pushed open the double doors and proceeded down the long corridor.

After talking with the Charge Nurse, who had pointed her towards Commander Ashborn. She had almost turned into the wrong room entirely. She could see a Romulan, with her back to her.

Capt Zh'Osha: Oh, excuse me... I'm looking for room 332... A Commander Ashborn? Apparently my new First Officer is there, unconscious.

The Captain smiled as the Romulan turned to face her. But seeing a tear roll down her cheek. Pi'Lar stopped in her tracks. Simply nodding at the Doctor, she thought for a moment before speaking up again.

Capt Zh'Osha: Doctor, I am sure you did your best... Do not be disheartened, he will journey to Apocriiphia...

She watched as the Doctor wiped her tears away.

Capt Zh'Osha: I am sure you did all you could....

Pi'Lar watched as the Doctor turned back to the Captain laying on the BioBed before smiling, ever so slightly and turning back to find Cmdr Ashborn's room.

Alexander found the situation very difficult to deal with, so he just sat there weeping over losing Capt Reich to his medical condition. He thought the company of his friend, Lt. Boffi would help him cope with the upcoming loss that was slowly approaching. Alex asked for the Lieutenant from Dr. Jovic.

Alexander Windsor: Dr. Jovic? Can you call Michaelangelo? I think I need his help through this.

The boy waited on the Doctor to call his friend to the ICU on the Med-Deck. They spent a lot of time together on the Holodecks of Infiniti, so they had a special brotherly bond. Alex hoped after all of this was over they could spend more time together on the Holodecks of SB34. The kid could certainly use something to cheer him up after all of his recent losses.

The Doctor appreciated what the Aenarian Captain said when she entered the ICU looking for Cmdr Ashborn's room. It was truly kind of the teal-skinned woman to express that Capt Reich would be going to the Andorian version of paradise when his journey with them had concluded. The Romulan version was known as Vorta Vor. Dragana nodded a thank you to the Captain before she turned and left the ICU.

Alexander was visibly even more upset, so much so that it appeared that he did not even notice the arrival and departure of the mysterious Captain who failed to introduce herself to them. The crying boy did make a requested of the Doctor, to which she was more than happy to oblige.

Lt. Commander Jovic: Of course, Alexander.

The Doctor tapped her Combadge and contacted Lt. Boffi, wherever he was on SB34.

Lt. Commander Jovic: Dr. Jovic to Lieutenant Boffi, you're needed in the ICU as soon as possible.

Dragana realized there were others who would most likely want to be there for Capt Reich's final moments.

Lt. Commander Jovic: Dr. Jovic to Commander Kee, Lieutenant Commander Little, Lieutenant Graham and Lieutenant Centares. I think you need to come to the ICU, Gentlemen. It's close to Captain Reich's time...

The Doctor also felt that Adm Arayuss and the other upper echelons may want to know as well.

Lt. Commander Jovic: Dr. Jovic to the Administrative Assistant to Admiral Arayuss. Captain Reich has taken a turn for the worst and is not expected to be with us much longer. The Admiral may want to come to the ICU as soon as possible.

Dragana looked to Alexander and gave him a hug as they waited on all the officers she contacted to come straight to the ICU to be with Capt Reich on the last moments of his mortality. The Doctor really did her best to keep from openly sobbing in front of anyone that would be showing up to see Sean during his last few moments of life.

Michaelangelo heard the call from Dr. Jovic and immediately went to the ICU on the Medical Deck of SB34. Upon his arrival he saw the Doctor hugging Alex Windsor, the boy he made friends with out in Sector Epsilon. The Lieutenant hoped he wasn't too late.

Lt. Boffi: I got here as fast as I could, Doctor. How ya doing, Alex?

The Ops Officer from Oriskany stood beside Dr. Jovic and young Mr. Windsor and watched over their friend, Capt Reich. He could tell by the monitors attached to the BioBed that Sean's vitals weren't doing so well. He wondered if anybody else would be coming here to see the Captain off.

LtCmdr Little was still in the Galleria, deciding between Catfish Soufflé and Wistan Gagh when the call came from Dr Jovic. He tapped his Combadge to reply.

Lt.Commander Little: Acknowledged, Doctor. I'm on my way.

He rushed to pay off the tab for the table he now would not need and proceeded directly to the ICU. Moments later, he arrived.

Lt.Commander Little: Doctor, is there... Anything I can do?

He looked over at the monitoring systems... He knew in himself that Capt Reich would not last the hour... There was nothing that could be done for him... But perhaps there was something that could be done for Doctor Jovic... Afterwards.

James had just finished freshening himself up when he heard from Dr. Jovic. With his heart racing, he ran to the closest Turbolift and took it to the ICU on the Med-Deck. Exiting the lift, he ran to the room Capt Reich was in. Upon entering, James saw that LtCmdr Little and Lt. Boffi was already there along with the boy they retrieved from the SS Mariposa. Dr. Jovic was standing by the bedside holding Alexander's hand as he sat in the chair by the Captain's bed. Lt. Boffi was standing behind Alex with his hands on the boy's shoulders. LtCmdr Little was standing close to the Doctor, looking concerned for her and the situation as a whole.

Cmdr Kee: Hey everyone, I got here as fast as I could. I was freshening up in my quarters here on Base...

The Commander didn't want to ramble on so he shut up and stood by the bed quietly. The situation was bad enough for everyone here without the XO rambling like a immature child. James thought about when he first met Sean when he was a Lieutenant Commander and the Second Officer of Oriskany and manned the Ops Station on the Bridge. They quickly became friends and now he was standing at his bedside, waiting for his friend's life to come to an end. James couldn't help it, tears started to fill his eyes so he leaned over and grabbed a tissue on the small table beside the bed. The XO wasn't the only one shedding tears in here so he knew there wouldn't be any judgement cast upon him. James dabbed his eyes as he watched Sean Reich's life coming to a close.

Oriskany's Chief Flight Control Officer had just got to his quarters on SB34 to see his family when he heard LtCmdr Jovic's call from the Intensive Care Unit. He quickly hugged his wife and their young son before running out the door, down the corridor and to the Turbolift. Jumping inside, he proceeded to the ICU where he exited and entered the room where Capt Reich was. He saw that Cmdr Kee, Chief Engineer Little and Michaelangelo were already there with Dr. Jovic and that boy Alexander.

Lt. Centares: Sorry I'm late. Had to hug my wife, Heather, and our son, Jaan, before rushing here.

The Lieutenant thought about how Capt Reich promoted him to Lieutenant after Lt. Thompson was killed by the Deltaurans as they were getting off the ship when they were boarded by those vile creatures. Ajay never thought the Captain would be laying here dying in a BioBed here on SB34 from some kind of complete mental breakdown. He felt anger towards the situation, not towards Capt Reich or Dr. Jovic. The Lieutenant knew it wasn't their fault this was happening. He was just curious why the Captain wasn't on some kind of life support to prevent his body from dying, even if his brain was. Ajay looked at the display and saw there was a DO NOT RESUSCITATE order on his chart, so that had to be why. This angered the Lieutenant even more...

Aeryck arrived in the ICU with E.J. and Andrea walking in behind him. The sadness in the room was overpowering for the empathic Romulan/Betazoid Hybrid. The CinC could also feel the love and admiration from all the officers in the room for their Captain and friend. The Admiral stood at the foot of the BioBed and spoke to everyone.

Adm Arayuss: I'm pleased to see all of Sean's friends here in his last few moments of life. He was a good man and a friend to everyone he met. As a Captain, his career was short-lived. Something of a loss to all of us in Starfleet. Sean would've gained the experience to become one of the best in command of a Starship, had he only been given the chance.

The CinC looked over at Dr. Jovic, who was standing beside the sole survivor of the Mariposa, Alexander Windsor, and with LtCmdr Little on the other side.

Adm Arayuss: How long does Sean have left, Doctor?

The Admiral waited on the Doctor's estimation on how much time Capt Reich had. He could sense from his telepathy that there wasn't much left in Sean's mind so it wouldn't be very long before they would be losing a good friend to them all. Aeryck thought back to when he made Sean the CO of Oriskany, and perhaps he was just too inexperienced to take on the task. The Admiral wondered if this was his fault...

The Doctor was deep in her mind trying to touch the mind of Capt Reich using her own telepathic ability, but she could not find anything left of her friend. She heard the voices of their friends that entered the room, but she was too distant to respond. That was until Adm Arayuss entered the room and spoke to all of them. Afterwards, the Admiral asked her a relevant question.

Dragana used her Medical Tricorder in conjunction with the BioBed's sensor array to scan Capt Reich as he laid there motionless.

Lt. Commander Jovic: It will not be long now, Admiral. Sean can go at any time.

The Doctor went back to holding the hand of Alexander and leaned towards LtCmdr Little for some emotionally physical support. Alexander continued to sob as they waited for Capt Reich's final moment, his crying was the only sound in the room. Everyone else was in silence, either in prayer or meditative thought for their befallen friend.
