Mission 1 - Into the Looking Glass  Reply with quote

The Captain looked towards the Space Doors, this was it, their journey into the unknown... He looked towards the Operations Station.

Capt Little: Contact Approach Control, have them keep a bay open for us. Mr. Centares, Impulse Power at your discretion.

Lewis sat in the Captain's chair and looked to his First Officer to give the final command to their Chief Flight Control Officer.

Thom smiled at Capt Little and made the announcement to LtCmdr Centares.

Cmdr Cypher: Full Impulse Power, Mr. Centares. Engage!

The XO relaxed in his chair and waited to see the stars moving towards them as the ship's velocity increased exponentially under Ajay's control.

Ajay did as the Captain commanded of him and contacted SB34's Approach Control and passed on the message for them to keep a bay open for the Event Horizon. He then brought the Impulse Engines to full speed per the XO's order and they sped away from SB34. As for those who would miss friends and family aboard their base, he had the Main Viewer showing their departure angle on screen.

Lt. Commander Centares: Full Impulse, Engaged! We're on course to the outer markers, ETA 16 minutes Captain! Woo, this ship is fast!

An indication light appeared on his console from Main Engineering...

Lt. Commander Centares: Engineering reports Warp Speed available through the Coaxial Warp Drive. What course would you like me to set once we're clear of Starbase 34's controlled space, Sir?

As the Chief Flight Control Officer piloted Event Horizon away from SB34, the image of the base decreased in size to a mere dot on the screen. Once SB34 was completely out of view, he switched their angle on the Viewscreen forward so they could now see where they were headed.

The Captain pondered his reply for a moment before responding to Ajay and giving Peter a heads up on what he needed to get ready.

Capt Little: Once we get to the outer markers, engage the Cloaking Device Omega Sector was so kind to bestow upon us, and head for the Omicron Sector, and step on it, see!

Lewis was sure everyone around them would be eager to test the new speed of the Nova Class Refit, and didn't want to deny them this pleasure.

Sitting at the Security/Tactical Station, LtCmdr Graham used the console to get the Cloaking Device ready for when they got to the outer markers that surrounded SB34's Control Space.

Lt. Commander Graham: Cloaking Device standing by, Captain.

Peter never operated a Cloaking Device before, but from what he read on the PADD given to him by FAdm Skyner last night, it did not appear to be too difficult. Once engage, Event Horizon would become invisible to sensors as well as to the naked eye.

As the outer marker satellites approached, Ajay set their course and got ready to engage the Coaxial Warp Drive. He was understandably curious to see just how fast they would be able to reach Sector Omicron. As soon as Event Horizon had passed the beacons indicating they were beyond SB34's controlled space, Ajay tapped the buttons his console and the ship launched to Warp Speed in an explosive spectrum of cosmic light!

Lt. Commander Centares: Coaxial Warp Drive engaged, Captain! At normal Warp 9 it would take us 15 days to reach Sector Omicron! At this speed we'll be there in just under 3! I'll say it again...Woo, this ship is fast!

It was hard for the Chief Flight Control Officer to hide his enthusiasm at marveling over the current rate of speed they were traveling. Ajay looked over towards his right at the Security/Tactical Station and nodded to Peter, indicating that he could engage the Cloaking Device now. Once that was done, they would become invisible to every form of scanning device in the known universe.

Peter smiled at Ajay as he used the controls on his console to activate the Cloaking Device. In a shimmering display of imagery, Event Horizon vanished from view! As far as anyone monitoring this vessel was concerned, it had just completely disappeared from scanners and sensor arrays.

Lt. Commander Graham: We are now cloaked, Captain!

The Chief Sec/Tac Officer looked around the Bridge where the normal interior bright lighting had changed to an orange hue. This was to indicate they were cloaked and hidden from view from anyone looking for them. LtCmdr Graham was enthralled by having this device available to him. It was only used by the Klingon Empire and what was left of the Romulan military fleet as a stealth tactic. But now it looked like the Federation had the ability too... Peter felt like a boy wizard wrapped in a cloak of invisibility out to spy on a possible adversary.

Thom was impressed with the speed and the use of the Cloaking Device aboard this fine ship and couldn't wait to express it to the Captain. The XO also wondered how PO3 Florenté was doing down in Main Engineering.

Cmdr Cypher: We got ourselves a fine ship here, Captain! I wonder how our Chief Engineer is doing below decks? I wouldn't mind getting a close up look of Main Engineering myself.

The Commander smiled towards Capt Little and wonder what his thoughts were on this magnificent vessel, especially the velocity they were traveling. Thom thought it was a shame to have to turn Event Horizon back over to FAdm Skyner when they returned to SB34. It would sure make an awesome permanent edition to Gamma Fleet.

The Captain agreed with his First Officer, Engineering is where they should be...

Capt Little: Well, I may have something for Mr. Florenté... Why don't you go and see how he's doing down there, Number One, spend a while, then we'll have our first Senior Staff Briefing...

Lewis took a last, lingering look around the Bridge, as he watched Cypher heading for Engineering. He then spoke to his Chief Flight Control Officer.

Capt Little: You have the Bridge, Mr. Centares!

Lewis then entered his Ready Room. It seemed a little sparse, he would have to look into decorations, no one would feel at home here anymore than Sickbay! He pushed the solitary Ω insignia on the display monitor, which would automatically lock the Ready Room and disable the Internal Sensors from the Bridge.

Thom arrived in Main Engineering and was thoroughly impressed with the design of the Coaxial Warp Core setup. This was truly the most impressive Engine Bay his eyes had ever seen. The XO found PO3 Florenté at the main console and approached the young Engineer.

Cmdr Cypher: Hey Jamie, how's it going down here? I thought I would come and check out the Engineering area for myself. The Captain will be having a Senior Staff Briefing in a little while so until then, why don't you show me around?

As the Commander waited on the Petty Officer to show him around the Engineering area, he couldn't help but look at all the displays on the consoles around him. They were quite impressive and Thom even felt a little jealous of Jamie getting to be the Chief Engineer of this ship for their secret mission.
