Mission 2 - Rendezvous at New Bajor  Reply with quote

David walked over to the center chair on the Bridge and took his seat. Looking over at his XO, the Captain began speaking out his orders for getting Oriskany out of the Space Doors.

Capt Calzada: I think it's about time to get on our way, Commander. Mr. Boffi, retract the Gangway and clear all moorings, then contact Dock Traffic Control and inform them we need clearance to the Space Doors. Mr. Centares, standby maneuvering thrusters to back us out slowly. Mr. McKenna, are you ready for a little ride?

The CO leaned back in his chair and looked around the Bridge at his officers going to work. Then glanced over at his Yeoman, looking very excited to have a seat on the Bridge to the left of the Captain. By the expressions on the faces of the entire Command Crew, they were more than ready to launch on their Rendezvous at New Bajor.

The Lieutenant Commander retracted the Gangway and cleared all moorings before he contacted Dock Traffic Control and informed them Oriskany needed clearance to the Space Doors. Since this was an emergency situation authorized by Adm Arayuss, Michaelangelo knew the Sovereign Class vessel would get preferential expediting to the exit from SB34.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Dock Traffic Control, this is Oriskany! We're requesting clearance to the Space Doors!

SB-34 Dock Traffic Control: Oriskany, you've been granted clearance. May your journey be free of incident.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Captain Calzada, we've got the clearance! Time to get us moving, Sir!

The Chief Operations Officer monitored his console and made sure there was more than enough power allocated to the thrusters for LtCmdr Centares to use in order to back Oriskany out of its berth and into the large area where ships generally spin on their axis in order to protrude through the Space Doors bow first. After that they would be free to navigate to the Outer Markers...

David smiled when he heard LtCmdr Boffi inform him that Oriskany had clearance to the doors that lead out to the Gamma Quadrant. All the Captain needed to do now was to instruct his Chief Flight Control Officer to use the maneuvering thrusters to back the ship right out of the Space Dock.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Centares, engage the thrusters and back us out of our berth and straight down the flight path to the Space Doors and take us through. No need to spin us on our axis, I know you can back us right out of here. So let's get moving!

The CO continued smiling as he waited on LtCmdr Centares to start moving Oriskany out of its berth and backing it completely out into space. Looking over towards his Yeoman, David could see just how excited the boy was. The Captain remembered when he was the XO aboard Infiniti and Yeoman Panettiere came to the Bridge for the first time and how excited he was. This kid was just as full of excitement as Jansen was back then, which was always a refreshing quality to have on the Bridge of any Starship.

Doing what Capt Calzada ordered, Ajay used the maneuvering thrusters to slowly back Oriskany out of its berth and into the main area of the Space Dock. Following the illuminated flight path, LtCmdr Centares continued using the thrusters to approach the doors which began to separate. In a few moments, the Sovereign Class Starship passed through the open Space Doors while continuing to move in reverse. Once outside SB34, Ajay began turning Oriskany away from the Starbase and slowly moved the ship away towards the vast reaches of space.

Lt. Commander Centares: We're free of the Space Doors and clear to navigate, Captain!

The Chief Flight Control Officer waited on his orders to increase their speed to the Outer Markers using the Impulse Engines to which he would be setting a course to New Bajor and accelerating to Warp Speed! Ajay just wasn't sure at what velocity the Captain would order since they needed to get to the Bajoran colony in a hurry. But whatever speed Capt Calzada ordered, it would be done, for that was the order of things.

The Captain gave his next set of orders to LtCmdr Boffi regarding their clearance to the Outer Markers. Followed by his new orders for LtCmdr Centares for setting a course and speed to New Bajor in order to rendezvous with Explorer, Infiniti and Whitestar.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Boffi, contact Approach Control and let them know we need emergency clearance to the Outer Markers! Once we have clearance, Mr. Centares, I'd like us to accelerate to maximum Impulse power. When we reach the markers, bring the Warp Engines online and increase speed to Warp 9.99! I'd like us to arrive as soon as possible!

The CO waited on his latest orders to be followed as he sat in the center chair beside his XO, Cmdr Kee to the right and his Yeoman, Ens McKenna to the left. David knew once they were on their way to New Bajor, it would take them around 20 minutes to reach the system.

Michaelangelo rapidly contacted SB34's Approach Control to get clearance to the Outer Markers so they could proceed at the fastest regulated speed they could to New Bajor. Tapping the panel to open a frequency LtCmdr Boffi spoke aloud to get them the clearance they needed.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Approach Control, this is USS Oriskany requesting emergency clearance to the Outer Markers!

SB34 Approach Control: Oriskany, this is Approach Control. You have been given emergency clearance to the markers, proceed at full Impulse power. Good luck and safe journey!

With the response from SB34's Approach Control being loud enough over the audio system on the Bridge for everyone to hear, it would've been redundant for LtCmdr Boffi to repeat what they said about the clearance to Capt Calzada. Also, LtCmdr Centares had his orders to follow as well so he could just get Oriskany moving at full Impulse power!

Hearing the response from SB34's Approach Control gave Ajay the green light to accelerate Oriskany to full Impulse power! The Sovereign Class vessel moved forward with the speed of a gazelle as it rapidly approached the Outer Markers. As soon as they passed the markers, LtCmdr Centares brought the Warp Engines online and off to New Bajor they headed at Warp 9.99!

Lt. Commander Centares: We're at Warp 9.99, Captain! Our ETA is twenty minutes!

With Oriskany moving at its maximum velocity, Ajay was feeling some vibrations in his console. Nothing to be concerned about though, it was just what happens when a vessel this size is moving so quickly through space. LtCmdr Centares was glad his family was aboard for this mission, now he wouldn't have to worry about the amount of time he'd be away from them. Plus, as a bonus, his son Jaan could perhaps have a mentor like Ens McKenna to look up to that's closer to his own age.

Happy to hear the news that Oriskany was underway, David ordered LtCmdr Boffi to send a message to Infiniti letting them know the Sovereign Class vessel was on their way to rendezvous with them at New Bajor. That way Como Carpathia would be aware Oriskany was just a short time period behind Explorer and Infiniti.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Boffi, send a message to Infiniti letting them know our position and speed so they know we're on our way!

The Captain felt a slight vibration on the deck below his feet and hoped that was normal for the speed they were traveling. David had just been given this ship to command and he didn't want to break it on their first time out together. The CO decided to contact his Chief Engineer and make an inquiry about the vibrations.

Capt Calzada: Bridge to Engineering! Mr. Waters, I'm feeling a slight vibration up here on the Bridge. Is this normal for our current velocity?

David sat in his chair and waited on a response from LtCmdr Waters down on Deck 16 in Main Engineering. The Captain remembered his days on Infiniti as Como Carpathia's XO and even at their maximum speed the ship never vibrated like this, so with Oriskany's slight vibrations they were giving the CO some concerns.

Doing what the Captain ordered, Michaelangelo sent a message to Infiniti informing them of Oriskany's speed and current position. LtCmdr Boffi was also feeling the vibrations from his location at the Ops Station and was wondering the same thing as Capt Calzada. So the Lieutenant Commander was also curious to hear what the Chief Engineer had to say.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Message sent to Infiniti, Captain!

As the Chief Operations Officer was waiting to hear from LtCmdr Waters regarding the vibrations, Michaelangelo ran a quick diagnosis on his console to see if anything was out of the ordinary. During LtCmdr Boffi's system check, there was nothing to indicate there was anything amiss. This gave Michaelangelo some confidence that all was okay, but he still wanted to hear something reassuring from the Chief Engineer.

Zac heard the Captain over the Com System and it brought a smile to his face. LtCmdr Waters thought Capt Calzada's concern as being really cute. Of course there would be vibrations when traveling at Warp 9.99, which was why Oriskany could only maintain it for 36 hours.

Lt. Commander Waters: Waters here, Captain! Yes, the vibrations are perfectly normal for our current speed, Sir! I wouldn't worry about it, Captain! We'll be fine, Sir!

The Chief Engineer still thought the Captain's concern about the vibrations he was feeling on the Bridge was adorable. Oriskany was not a compact design like Infiniti so there was going to be some vibrating when they're moving at such a high speed. But since Capt Calzada was unaware of it, Zac thought it was great that the Captain was concerned enough to ask LtCmdr Waters about it.
