Office of the Commander in Chief

As he looked over the reports of the ships that had vanished between Sector Epsilon and SB34, he sensed the presence of his dear friend was near. He stopped what he was doing and rose in his seat, and waited for him to enter.

Capt Carpathia entered the VAdmiral's office with Yeoman Panettiere in tow. He walked across the room and straight up to the small statured DCinC and shook his hand.

Capt Carpathia: It's a pleasure to see you, Sir.

He smiled wide, with eyes flickering with happiness.

Capt Carpathia: May I present to you, Yeoman Panettiere. I believe you read the report I sent you regarding his actions aboard Infiniti.

He handed the DCinC the PADD containing his recommendations for commendations and promotions.

Capt Carpathia: These are some more crew members that I feel need your attention, Sir.

He waited on the DCinC's response.

He took the PADD from Capt Carpathia and looked at the Yeoman he presented.

VAdm Arayuss: Indeed I have.

He walked slowly around the two of them.

VAdm Arayuss: With great detail.

He stopped directly in front of them.

VAdm Arayuss: Crewman Recruit Panettiere, I have read your Captain's report, as well as viewed Infiniti's flight recorder. I find that you acted way beyond the confines of your current status. You showed accountabilty, bravery, and selflessness in the protection of Infiniti's crew. These are not the acts of a Crewman Recruit, I'm sorry to say.

He paused as he walked back to his desk and took a small box that he had by his console and returned to stand before the young Yeoman.

VAdm Arayuss: These are the actions of a Starfleet Officer. I hereby grant you a field commission to the rank of Ensign, with all the priviledges and duties that come along with it.

He opened the box and removed the single gold pip and took the gray enlisted insignia off Panettiere's collar and placed the gold pip in it's place.

VAdm Arayuss: Congratulations, Ensign Panettiere. On a job well done.

He took a step back and admired the look of surprise on the Ensign's face. Aeryck knew it wasn't everyday a low ranking enlisted crewman gets to make the jump to the entry rank of officer. But this person truly deserved it.

He stood there and felt his eyes moisten. Never in his dreams could he have imagined something like this happening to him. He looked up at the Captain who was smiling back down at him, and gave him a hug.

Ens Panettiere: Thank you so much...I'll never let you down, I promise.

He looked over to the DCinC, who wasn't much taller than he was and wiped his eyes and address him.

Ens Panettiere: Thank you, Sir. I will do my best, to do my duty, for Starfleet and the Federation, and it's allies.

He stood at attention with pride way beyond measure.

He stood there beside Ensign Panettiere like a proud parent.

Capt Carpathia: There's no need to thank me, Jansen. You deserve this.

He tossled the Ensign's hair and laughed, and gave him a hug in return.

He smiled as he watched them, and then spoke.

VAdm Arayuss: Ensign, there is something you may want to get taken care of rather quickly.

He leaned back against the front of his desk.

He straightened up and looked towards the DCinC.

Ens Panettiere: What's that, Sir?

He looked at him inquisitively.

He smiled and spoke casually.

VAdm Arayuss: Impersonating an enlisted crewman is an offense. You should change your uniform, Ensign Panettiere.

He laughed at the look on the Ensign's face.

He laughed with the DCinC.

Ens Panettiere: Right away, Sir.

He looked at the Captain and smiled.

Ens Panettiere: I wonder if they have officer uniforms in my size?

He waited for his reply.

Capt Carpathia: If they can make an admiral's uniform in his size, I'm sure they can make an officer's uniform for you.

He laughed as he looked towards the DCinC.
