Bridge - Deck 1

Thom grinned at the Yeoman at the Ops Station as he walked by to the exit on the Port side of the Bridge that lead to the corridor where he could find the VIP Observation Lounge. When the XO entered, he saw everyone looking around the lounge since none of them had been there before. Since there was no cake to be seen, Thom made an inquiry of Lt. JG DeGrazzio.

Cmdr Cypher: Jayden, how’s that cake coming along?

As the XO waited on a response from the Lieutenant JG, he walked around and checked out the lounge for himself. The view outside the large windows was extraordinary! Seeing them moving through the Coaxial Warp Effect from an aft point of view was quite unique. Thom also wondered if MCpt Lopez would be attending since by now he should’ve gotten the notification he sent to the Marine Captain’s PADD. Since PO3 Florenté was also from Infiniti, he wondered if anyone here sent a notification to their Chief Engineer.

Cmdr Cypher: By the way, has anyone notified Jamie of us being here for the Professor?

While Thom continued to look around the lounge, he took note of a beautifully created miniature of Event Horizon on a pedestal, under glass. The detail of the model was so exact, that if the Commander didn’t know better, he’d think he was looking at the actual Starship itself. The only thing missing was the rippled tunnel of the Coaxial Warp Effect surrounding the ship.

VIP Observation Lounge - Deck 1

Jayden smiled at Cmdr Cypher while he made his way over to the Replicator. He was going to design a wonderful cake for the Professor to commemorate his birthday. The Lieutenant JG just needed to know what flavors Prof Brewer preferred. The last thing Jayden wanted to do was create a cake for his friend and have it not be to his liking.

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: I’m right on top of that, Commander. I just need to find out what flavors Professor Brewer prefers, so I can make him the perfect birthday cake!

The Chief Science Officer looked over towards the Professor and gave him an inquisitive expression as he continued…

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: Well, Professor? What flavors do you like most so I can make you a delicious birthday cake? With this Replicator, I can put together a beautiful cake for you.

The Lieutenant JG waited by the Replicator for Prof Brewer to name off the flavors he preferred for the cake that would be designed just for him. Jayden had experience making cakes in the Replicator from watching Como Carpathia make them for members of his crew on their birthdays. The Commodore really enjoyed making cakes for people and that was passed down to Lt. JG DeGrazzio over the time they spent aboard Infiniti together and at the Division 1 Commander’s residence aboard SB34.

The Professor was surprised at Jayden’s question about what flavor cake he liked best. The Lieutenant JG’s question brought back nostalgic memories of his favorite cake during his life on Earth and was happy to be able to describe his favorite with Jayden.

Prof Brewer: Jayden, thank you for asking about my favorite cake. Actually, my favorite is one I always enjoyed. It was basically a chocolate cake called "Black Forest Cake”. It consisted of layers of chocolate cake separated with icing with cherries or strawberries and also coated on top. It’s very yummy and certainly a fine birthday party surprise and celebration. For those party goers who may be on a diet, they will have to settle on plain pound cake with a little crushed pineapple on top.

Lloyd laughed at the idea of somebody passing up the opportunity to have Black Forest Cake for some plain pound cake with a small amount of crushed pineapple on the top. The Professor smiled at Jayden and Cmdr Cypher as he spoke up again.

Prof Brewer: Thank you Jayden and you too, Commander Cypher, for cookin’ up this cake to make this an exciting and Happy Birthday celebration.

Strolling around the lounge, the Professor welcomed the congratulations from the others in there as they all waited for Jayden to present a completed cake for all to see and then consume! Lloyd noticed the miniature of Event Horizon under the glass and thought it was beautifully constructed. It appeared to be handmade too, making it much more valuable than a replica created by the Replicator.

The Lieutenant JG was astonished that Prof Brewer’s favorite cake was his own favorite cake too! He positively loved Black Forest Cake! Jayden began programming the Replicator to create the perfect version of what the Professor asked for. While doing so, the Lieutenant JG let the Professor know that he was honored to be a participant in the festivities.

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: You’re more than welcome, Professor! I’m honored to be the one making the cake for you, I’m going to design a really good one for you too since that’s also my favorite kind of cake!

Jayden continued programming the Replicator to make the Black Forest Cake with chocolate sponge cake, icing, chocolate shavings and cherries on the inside and all around the top of the cake in a perfect circle. The Lieutenant JG also replicated two candles, one in the shape of a nine and the other in the shape of a zero. Placing them in the center of the cake they perfectly completely the birthday cake for the Professor. Before bringing it to the table for all to see, Jayden waited on MCpt Lopez and PO3 Florenté to arrive. Since he heard they had been contacted, presenting the cake before they arrived would’ve been unfortunate for them.

Main Engineering - Deck 7

Jamie saw the message from Lt. Mitchell regarding a birthday celebration for Prof Brewer taking place in the VIP Observation Lounge and quickly secured his station in Main Engineering and made his way down the corridor to the Turbolift and took it to Deck 1. Exiting the lift, the Chief Engineer moved towards the lounge at a heightened pace. Upon entry, Jamie could see the Bridge crew in there, with the exception of Capt Little. The Petty Officer waited a few moments until the Professor wasn’t speaking with anyone to wish him a happy birthday!

PO3 Florenté: Happy Birthday, Professor! I hope you’re having a grand time and this was a pleasant surprise!

The Chief Engineer didn’t bother shaking the Professor’s hand and instead gave him a hearty hug. Jamie looked around after the embrace for signs of a birthday cake and saw Lt. JG DeGrazzio at the Replicator. The Petty Officer knew from past experience that the Lieutenant JG was a wiz at creating wonderful cakes with a replicator. This lead to Jamie having stomach grumblies at the thought of how delicious the cake was going to be.

Captain's Cabin - Deck 2

As the Marine Captain was going over his notes regarding the Holodeck fiasco, he saw the message from Cmdr Cypher regarding a gathering in the Professor’s honor for his 90th birthday up in the VIP Observation Lounge on Deck 1. Chris rose from where he was sitting in the Captain’s Quarters and went into the Captain’s bedroom and could see that he was sound asleep. MCpt Lopez felt that Capt Little needed his sleep, so Chris decided not to wake him and instead bring him back a slice of cake if there was any left. Grabbing a PADD on the end table by the bed, the Marine Captain scrolled out a message stating where he was should the Captain awake and most importantly, that he was invited too.

Afterwards, Chris placed the PADD back on the end table and walked out of the Captain’s Quarters on Deck 2 and proceeded to the Turbolift to take it up one level. MCpt Lopez quickly made it into the lounge and saw the Bridge crew up there along with Mr. Florenté, the Chief Engineer. Chris looked around hoping there would still be cake left and noticed it hadn’t been presented to Prof Brewer yet. The Marine Captain walked over to the Professor and congratulated him on his anniversary of the day of his birth.

MCpt Lopez: Happy Birthday Professor Brewer! On behalf of all the Marines under my command, we wish you congratulations on the anniversary of the day of your birth! I left a note on a PADD for the Captain, inviting him to the party in case he wakes up in time. I told him in the note that I would save him a piece of cake in case he doesn’t make it. I hope that’s alright?

Chris waited to hear if it was alright if they saved a piece of cake for Capt Little, once everyone here in the lounge had a piece. MCpt Lopez looked around the lounge and saw most of the people in there were admiring a model of Event Horizon under glass on a pedestal. From the short distance he was standing from it, he waited to hear from Prof Brewer if there would be a piece of cake for the Captain.

VIP Observation Lounge - Deck 1

The Professor was delighted to see the Chief Engineering Officer, Jamie Florenté approach him in the Observation Lounge and was well pleased with the warm hug he got from him.

Prof Brewer: Thanks Jamie, for taking time from your busy schedule to be here to help celebrate my Birthday. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and hope you enjoy the festivities as well as the fine cake that is being prepared by Jayden. Have fun!

Lloyd was happy to be approached by MCpt Lopez and to hear the congratulations on behalf of all the Marines and from the Marine Captain. Chris seemed to be interested in the cake being prepared by Jayden. The Professor assured him that there would be plenty of cake for everyone and it would perfectly fine to take some back to Capt Little, who may not be able to attend the party.

Prof Brewer: Thank you for coming, Chris. I am very happy to have you here. Have fun and enjoy the cake Jayden is preparing. If Captain Little is unable to be here, it will be perfectly okay to take some back to him. Enjoy yourself as others seem to be doing. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness . Do have fun, Captain Lopez.

The Professor looked over towards Jayden and gave him a nod to let him know that everyone was present and now would be a good time to reveal the Black Forest Cake that he made for Prof Brewer on this glorious occasion. Lloyd was entirely pleased with the people who came to share in this day with him, he couldn't help but to feel touched...

Jayden saw that both MCpt Lopez and PO3 Florenté finally showed up and greeted Prof Brewer before the Professor gave the Lieutenant JG a nod to bring the cake over to the table for all to see. Before carrying the Black Forest Cake over to where it would be displayed in front of everyone, Jayden replicated a single-strike match so that he could ignite to two candles on top of the Prof Brewer’s favorite dessert. Striking the match, the Lieutenant JG lit the candles with the open flame that was just small enough to avoid the fire suppression system. Once the candles were glowing, Jayden picked up the cake and carried it over to the table while he and everyone else in the room began singing the traditional song that had been used to celebrate birthdays since the year 1912 on Earth. When the cake reached the table, Jayden smiled as sought the Professor’s approval on his design.

Lt. JG DeGrazzio: What do you think, Professor Brewer? Do you like the way it looks?

As the Lieutenant JG waited on the Professor’s response, he got ready to hand Prof Brewer the knife that doubled as a spatula to serve the pieces that were cut from the cake…after the Professor blew out the candles on his birthday surprise. It was traditional for the birthday celebrator to make a wish before blowing out the candles on their cake, so naturally Jayden wondered what the Professor would wish for on his special day.

When Lt. JG DeGrazzio got the cue that MCpt Lopez and PO3 Florenté finally arrived, he lit the two candles on top of the cake with the match he replicated and carried the cake to the serving table. Once there, he asked the Professor if he liked the way it was decorated. Prof Brewer immediately replied…

Prof Brewer: Jayden, I can truthfully say that this is the most beautifully decorated Black Forest Cake I have ever seen. I'm sure that from all the Ooo’s and Aah’s you hear from all the others here, you will know they feel exactly as I do. As I blow out these candles my wish is for total peace throughout the entire Universe.

With that said, Lloyd proceeded to cut the first slice of cake then allowed the attendants of the VIP Observation Lounge to finish cutting and prepare to serve. While they did so, Prof Brewer invited everyone to come forward for some of this delicious cake. Lloyd added that coffee, tea and other drinks would be found on the next table.

Lloyd then went on to his seat at a dining table. He couldn't help but take a quick bite before others got served but through courtesy he wanted for all the others to be served first and to join him nearby. Prof Brewer wanted everyone to enjoy this time together as they enjoyed their treats as a group.

Prof Brewer: As we conclude this wonderful celebration, I wish to take time to thank everyone for being here and for the time and effort in making my Birthday date celebration one I will always cherish and remember. My sincere thanks to everyone!

The Professor smiled as he ate the delicious cake now that everyone was seated around the table. As far as Lloyd could remember, he never had a Black Forest Cake that tasted this good. Prof Brewer could even taste the love and consideration that went into making it, which made Lloyd very proud of Jayden and his talent for working a Replicator to make the perfect cake for this celebration.

Thom really enjoyed his slice of Black Forest Cake while celebrating the Professor’s birthday with the other members of the crew. There was one slice leftover and that was for Capt Little. The XO smiled when he spoke to MCpt Lopez regarding the remaining piece of cake.

Cmdr Cypher: Hey Chris, don’t forget to take that piece of cake with you when you return to the Captain’s Cabin. If you leave it behind, I don’t think it’s going to remain for very long.

The Commander could see on the faces of the others that what he said was true. The cake was extremely delicious; Jayden did an awesome job of creating it in the Replicator. Had Thom not actually watched the Lieutenant JG program the Replicator by hand in making it, the XO would’ve believed it had been handmade and baked in a kitchen.
