Mr. Skonch secured his station and exited the Bridge in a prompt fashion as he walked down the corridor to the Conference Room. The Commander entered, took a seat and waited for the others to arrive. While waiting, the Chief Science Officer looked over the mission parameters on his PADD. As Mr. Skonch read through the information, he began to formulate an idea on possible reasons why the colonists on New Bajor stopped transmitting. The two most evident possibilities were they were unable to respond or unwilling to respond. As obvious as those two possibilities were Cmdr Skonch kept them to himself for now since the only other officers in the room were Capt Daqtorgh, Cmdr Ashborn and Ens Garcia. Once the Captain opened the topic for discussion, Mr. Skonch would announce his observations to the Senior Staff.

Main Engineering - Deck 15  Reply with quote

The Commander logged off his Engineering Station and left his crew in charge of the Engine Room as he proceeded to the Turbolift and took it to Deck 1 where he went to the Conference Room. When Thom entered, he saw that the Captain, Cmdr Ashborn, Cmdr Skonch and the Yeoman were already there. Cmdr Cypher took a seat and poured himself a glass of water and enjoyed the cool, fresh taste.

Cmdr Cypher: Thanks for the water, I love it!

While sitting there the Chief Engineer went over the data on the PADD he brought with him. Thom didn't anticipate any problems with the new renovations to the Engines on this mission, other than the heat that could build up from the velocity they were traveling. But since Whitestar wouldn't be moving at Warp 9 for longer than 2 hours, they should be fine. If there was going to be a problem, it would show up on the Engineering Station on Deck 15 and the Ops Station on the Bridge.

Rafo signed off of his console at the rear of the Bridge and briskly walked to the Conference Room and took a seat. The Lieutenant Colonel was there to represent the Marines aboard Whitestar that were the pilots of the 58th Squadron. If they were going to be needed, LtCol Carrera would like to know in advance this way he could make sure the Detachment Wing was ready!

Lt. Colonel Carrera: I'll have some water! I'm glad we have it here on the table, it's good to have a refreshing beverage available for us. Thank you to whoever set this up.

The Detachment Wing Commander filled his glass with the cool, refreshing water and took out his PADD so he had it handy just in case Rafo needed to take notes during the briefing. LtCol Carrera was really curious to know why the colony on New Bajor went silent. It was a shame Whitestar didn't have a squad of Marines like Infiniti did, just in the event ground assault troops were necessary in this mysterious situation.

Counselor's Office - Deck 4  Reply with quote

The Counselor received the message on her desk terminal in her office regarding the Senior Staff briefing, so she logged out of her console which secured all the psych files on the crew from any wandering eyes. Kunti got up from behind her desk and walked to the Turbolift and took it up to the Conference Room on Deck 1. Upon entering, LtCmdr Ho could see that the Captain, Cmdr Ashborn, Cmdr Skonch, Cmdr Cypher, LtCol Carrera and a very young Ensign were seated around the table. There were still more empty chairs so the Counselor knew she wasn’t too late arriving to the briefing.

Lt. Commander Ho: I came as fast as I could. It’s good to see all of you.

The Whitestar’s Counselor took a seat at the table and poured herself a glass of water. Reaching for her PADD, Kunti looked over the mission they were speeding off to. Wondering what the cause of an entire colony of over 150,000 people losing contact with SB34 really worried Counselor Ho. Kunti knew whatever the cause was had to of happened quickly for no distress message to be sent. The Counselor looked around the room and could see the others were worried too regarding the colony. Except for Mr. Skonch, he appeared to be concerned since being worried was an emotion and he purged himself of those long ago.

Dylan made sure the Flight Control Station was going to be manned while he was in the Conference Room, so the Lieutenant called up another pilot from the Flight Operations personnel area of Whitestar on Deck 15. Once the pilot arrived, Lt. Thomas gave him the following instructions.

Lt. Thomas: As you can see here, we’re on a direct course to New Bajor and we’re moving at Warp 9. The travel time is less than two hours so there’s no reason for concern. I’ll be in the Conference Room with the rest of the Senior Staff. If anything happens, contact me immediately. Thank you, Ensign.

Ens Treloki: Aye, Lieutenant. I’ll keep the ship steady as she goes.

The Chief Flight Control Officer exited the Bridge after he patted Ens Treloki on his shoulder, showing the Ensign he had confidence in his ability to keep Whitestar moving right along. Dylan walked down the short corridor and entered the Conference Room and quickly took a seat. There were still empty chairs so Lt. Thomas pulled out his PADD and started playing an old game he downloaded from the archives aboard SB34 called Tetris. It helped give the Lieutenant the dexterity in his fingers that he would need in the event evasive maneuvers were ordered.

The Lieutenant used his console to link with the Engineering console on Deck 15 so the staff down there could monitor all of the ship’s systems, that way he could attend the briefing in the Conference Room. Once the link was complete, Cole signed out of his console and quickly walked to where the briefing was to take place. Once the Lieutenant entered the room, there were only a few vacant chairs left so he took the empty one next to Lt. Thomas. Since there was water available, the Chief Operations Officer helped himself to some of it. The water tasted pure, plus it was nice and cool. Very refreshing…

As they were all waiting on the rest of the Senior Staff to arrive, Cole pulled out his PADD and began going over all the data on the New Bajor colony. Seeing how many colonists were there gave him a shudder to think about if they had been attacked by the Dominion again. But since they signed an Armistice with them, the Dominion shouldn’t be attacking any of the Alpha Quadrants settlements anymore. Even though that treaty was signed in 2375 and it was now 2398, Cole felt that if the Dominion changed its mind about the Armistice, it was a little late to do so. With SB34 having a permanent residence in the Gamma Quadrant, it would be a little difficult for them to mount another large offensive into the Alpha Quadrant. But the Lieutenant still didn’t want to rule the Dominion out since they originally wiped out the colony back in 2373, killing every man, woman and child that lived in New Rakantha, which was their capital city.

Kyle got ready to attend the Senior Staff meeting in the Conference Room by using his console to summon his Assistant Security/Tactical Officer to the Bridge. It didn’t take Lt. JG Syntranos long to come up from the Chief Security/Tactical Officer’s office on Deck 15. As soon as the Lieutenant JG walked over to the Sec/Tac Station, Kyle showed him what was going on with his station.

Lt. Wolf: Welcome to the Command Deck, Darsyn! I’m heading to the Conference Room for a Senior Staff briefing, so you have the Bridge till we return. There’s nothing going on tactically so weapons and shields are offline. If you need me, you know where I’ll be. Take care of the ship Mr. Syntranos, it’s got a fresh coat of paint and the Captain doesn’t want any scratches on it.

The Chief Security/Tactical Officer smiled at his assistant before walking out of the Bridge, down the short hallway and entering the Conference Room. There were only two seats not occupied and it looked like everyone was here except Dr. Tudismaque. It felt good not to be the last to show up to his first Senior Staff meeting regarding their mission out here in the Gamma Quadrant.

Chief Medical Officer's Office - Deck 4  Reply with quote

Jacques knew he was running late, but he wanted to finish getting the medical records in order before leaving his office. As soon as Dr. Tudismaque finished, he logged out of his terminal and quickly ran to the Turbolift and took it from Deck 4 to Deck 1 where the Conference Room was located. Exiting the lift, Jacques continued his fast pace till he got inside the room and saw that all the seats were taken, but one. The Doctor took his seat and smiled to everyone.

Lt. Tudismaque: Sorry for holding you up, I'm here so we can get the party started!

The Chief Medical Officer laughed at his own comment before picking up his PADD and get ready to take notes on the upcoming mission to New Bajor. The Doctor knew the medical facilities in the colony were top notch and they could handle any variety of injuries. But if they were overloaded, Dr. Tudismaque would be there to help them in any way he possibly could. That was the creed of any medical physician in a time of crisis, which with the communications ceasing with the colony, it would definitely be considered a crisis.

Daqtorgh cleared his throat and drank a glass of the cool water supplied by Yeoman Garcia before addressing the Senior Staff. For those who did not know who he was, the Captain introduced himself.

Capt Daqtorgh: Thank you for all coming, before we start there's two things I want to get out of the way. First, my name is Daqtorgh, son of Qoy’lut, the Dahar Master from the House of tlhoqlw’. Second, just because I'm Klingon, I don't believe in their brutality. I will not strike a crew member just because they make an error, we all make a mistakes, we learn by them. Just as I don't tolerate drinking and drunkenness on-board, I don't allow the striking of crew members. This is Starfleet, not the Klingon Defense Force.

The CO raised his glass of water and then motioned towards Luis.

Capt Daqtorgh: This cool water is courtesy of our Yeoman, just in case you haven't met this little guy, he's Ensign Luis Garcia. Let's give him a ground of applause.

Daqtorgh looked towards the Ensign while everyone around the table applauded the youngster.

Capt Daqtorgh: Now to why we are gathered here. As you know, New Bajor has been silent for hours. We're talking about a colony of over 150,000 that has suddenly gone quiet, so I'd like to hear some theories on why this could be happening.

The Captain looked towards Mr. Skonch or Mr. Cypher to start. Since Skonch was his Chief Science Officer he figured the Vulcan had to have a theory or two. Thom was his Chief Engineer and thought he may have a theory of his own to add to the conversation with the Senior Staff as well.

The Vulcan scientist looked over the PADD in his hand and thought about what he was going to announce to the Captain what the possibilities were on why New Bajor went silent. The possibilities were obvious, but Mr. Skonch still felt they needed to be stated.

Cmdr Skonch: There are two possibilities, they're unable to respond; they're unwilling to respond. We will know more when we're close enough to scan the colony. Right now all we would have is speculation. Which would not benefit our mission to assist the colonists at this time.

The Chief Science Officer offered this to the Captain and every other member of the Senior Staff seated around the table. That speculation and theories in a situation like this would only fuel fears and anxiety. They needed to know more and only a sensor scan of the planet would provide them with the knowledge to make an educated and experienced hypothesis. Since Vulcans do not make emotional conclusions, this was the best Cmdr Skonch could give Capt Daqtorgh at this time.
