Thom and his team were working on the portions of the lightning deterrent array and they were rapidly completing the items necessary to place them in a large case that was replicated by Ens Wilson. While this was going on they all heard the voice of Capt Daqtorgh come over the speaker system, letting the Commander know Lt. Wolf would have a Security Team standing by to beam down with them and help keep Cmdr Cypher and Ens Wilson safe.

Cmdr Cypher: Thank you, Captain! We're almost done down here! Ensign Wilson and I will be bringing the array's main components in a case to Transporter Room One in just a few minutes! I'll let you know as soon as we're ready to go, Sir!

The Chief Engineer and Ens Wilson began finishing the process of making sure all the components fit properly together before placing them in the protective case. As soon as they were all test fitted, Thom and the Ensign placed all the items into the case and secured it with a lock tight lid. Carrying the case, both at one of the ends, Cmdr Cypher and Ens Wilson went to the Turbolift and took it up to Deck 4 and through the corridor to Transporter Room 1 where they were greeted by the XO, Dr. Tudismaque and Yeoman Garcia. Thom placed the array case on the floor and waited on the arrival of the Security Team with Ens Wilson. As soon as they were ready to beam down, Cmdr Cypher would make Capt Daqtorgh aware they were ready to depart Whitestar for the location of the ISSCV.

As Kunti was staying out of the way of the medical staff in Sickbay, she heard Capt Daqtorgh over her Combadge. Since LtCmdr Ho was the ship's Counselor, it was her job to counsel people in their times of need, and the orphaned children being beamed up from such a horrible circumstance like what happened to them in New Rakantha certainly qualified them for those in need of counseling. Tapping her Combadge, Kunti responded to the Captain.

Lt. Commander Ho: Understood, Captain! As soon as the opportunity presents itself, I'll start talking to the children about what happened down in New Rakantha! Although I'm not empathic, I am still pretty good when it comes to talking with children, Sir!

The Counselor remained out of the way of the medical staff in Sickbay as she waited to hear anything more from Capt Daqtorgh regarding the 250 refugee children that would be coming up here from the planet's surface. Kunti really was good at talking to kids and thought that perhaps when the children were checked over by the Medics she would take a few to her office down the corridor where she could get them to relax and recall the events that lead to the devastating outbreak of Xenomorph activity on New Bajor.

Acknowledging the first 40 refugees to be received, the Captain contacted Cmdr Ashborn down in Transporter Room 1 by tapping his Combadge to let him know the first group of children were about to beam up.

Capt Daqtorgh: Daqtorgh to Transporter Room One! Commander Ashborn, here come first forty refugees! Ensign Garcia, house them properly! Make sure the correct quarters are set for them! Mr. Cypher, Transporter will be ready in a matter of moments, those Marines need that array. Dr. Tudismaque I'd like a health screening before we house these refugees and before we relocate them to Starbase 34!

After addressing the officers in Transporter Room 1, Daqtorgh contacted LtCmdr Ho who was still in Sickbay, awaiting the first arrival of the child refugees.

Capt Daqtorgh: Daqtorgh to Counselor Ho! Make your presence known to the children as there's forty refugees ready to beam up any moment.

With everyone addressed, the CO sat in his chair and waited to hear confirmation of the first group of refugees beaming up, followed by Cmdr Cypher's team and the Security Team beaming down to the surface before the next group of children beamed aboard. So far everything was going seamlessly and that is what Daqtorgh expected from his crew. The Captain was very proud of each and every one of them and when this was all over, he would find a way to celebrate with them all back on SB34.

As Chase watched the Transporter Chief get the coordinates from the Bridge, it was only a matter of a few minutes before the children in the first group started to beam up in a smaller amount due to the safety parameters on the Transporter itself. In groups of 10 they appeared on the pads and were led off by the Yeoman who was taking his duty seriously. As the Transporter Room filled with wet children that were crying from relief, the Commander instructed Luis to take the children into the corridor so Cmdr Cypher and Ens Wilson could carry the case with the array inside up onto the pad so they could be beamed down to the surface.

Cmdr Ashborn: Luis, take the kids into the corridor so Dr. Tudismaque can check them out, this way Commander Cypher and Ens Wilson can beam down with the array they need to install on the I-Double-S-C-V.

Once Ens Garcia took the children out of the Transporter Room, the area was clear for Cmdr Cypher and his assistant to carry the container up to the pads where they could be transported down to the extraction site.

Cmdr Ashborn: Commander Cypher, we're ready for you!

Turning to the Transporter Chief, Chase indicated for him to alert those at the extraction site to be ready for the arrival of Cmdr Cypher, Ens Wilson and the lightning deterrent array. The XO waited on the Chief Engineer and his assistant to carry the case up to the Transporter Pads and get ready to beam down to the area marked by the enhancers near the ISSCV. Once the Security Team went up to join them on the pads, they would be ready to go!

Obeying what Cmdr Ashborn had told him to do with the children from New Bajor, Luis led the boys and girls to the corridor where they waited on the Doctor to give them all a quick physical examination before the Ensign would lead them to Sickbay for a complete medical examination by the staff that had been preparing for their arrival. Afterwards, Ens Garcia would take them to the rooms they would be staying in until they arrived back to SB34. Since all the refugees were wet because of the rain, the Yeoman replicated warm towels for all of them so they would not feel so cold up here in Whitestar.

Ens Garcia: Here you go, take a towel and stay warm. It must be raining really hard down there. Do not worry, we will not be leaving until every person is off New Bajor. You are completely safe up here. I am Ensign Luis Antonio Garcia, Yeoman of the USS Whitestar and it is my assigned duty to take care of all of you while you are aboard If you need anything at all, please just ask me.

The Yeoman waited outside in the corridor for Dr. Tudismaque to check each of the children over to make sure they had no severe injuries that needed immediate medical attention in Sickbay and who just needed a quick examination and could be released to Ens Garcia so he could show them where they will be staying while aboard the ship. Luis felt a great deal of pride in himself that Capt Daqtorgh had confidence in his Yeoman to take on such an important assignment. The Ensign was going to do his best to make sure the refugee children's needs were met and they were made comfortable.

Thom grabbed the handle on his side of the container the array was in and Randy grabbed the handle on his side and together they walked up to the Transporter Pads and placed the container down in the center, standing on either side of it. The Security Team sent by Lt. Wolf accompanied them on the pads and took their places, weapons ready.

Cmdr Cypher: We're ready Commander Ashborn, energize!

The group was beamed down inside the area of the Transporter Enhancers. Thom immediately picked up the case with Randy and moved it inside the ISSCV where they opened it up and began to assemble the lightning deterrent array. The Security Team stayed at the opening of the Marine dropship and stood guard as Cmdr Cypher and Ens Wilson quickly assembled the array out of the rain.

Corridor Outside Transporter Room 1 - Deck 4  Reply with quote

Using his Medical Tricorder to check each one of the 10 children in the corridor, Jacques found them all to be in good health. Except for a few cuts and bruises from running down into the catacombs, all the children Dr. Tudismaque checked were in relatively excellent condition. They must've had food and water with them down there since there were no signs of malnutrition or dehydration. The Doctor didn't feel it was necessary to take all 40 of the kids to Sickbay where they would be crowded and not in need of any treatment. So Jacques thought it best for Luis to take only the children with the slight cuts and bruises to his Medial Staff so they can be treated with a Dermal Regenerator.

Lt. Tudismaque: Ensign, I don't feel it's necessary to take all of these kids to Sickbay right now. Just take the children with the slight skin lacerations and contusions so the Med Staff can use a Dermal Regenerator on them. I think these kids would prefer to stay together for a while so perhaps you should create a bunk-room in the Holodeck for them to use. That way Counselor Ho can talk to the kids and keep them calm. When they're all set up and the injured ones are released to join the rest, return here for another batch of refugees. Alright, Luis?

The Chief Medical Officer waited on a reply from the Yeoman before returning to the Transporter Room. It was a good idea for the Ensign to replicate the warm towels for the children to dry off with. Jacques could see why Capt Daqtorgh had so much faith in the boy to take on the assignment of being the coordinator for the child refugees. Luis truly had all the compassion necessary for what he was doing. With the right training, Mr. Garcia would make an excellent doctor someday if that is what he wished to become.

Luis watched as Dr. Tudismaque scanned the refugees and took note of which ones to bring to Sickbay for their lacerations and contusions. Once the Doctor completed his task with this group of children and told the Ensign what he wanted him to do with the refugees, Luis responded quite clearly so there was no indication that he misunderstood the Doctor.

Ens Garcia: Understood, Doctor!

Turning to the children in the corridor, Luis instructed them to follow him to Sickbay which was on the same deck.

Ens Garcia: Follow me to our next stop, Sickbay! There, those of you with injuries will get them taken care of by the Medical Staff of Dr. Tudismaque. Then we will be off to a place where you can all relax together until we reach Starbase 34.

With the refugees following behind Luis, he led them down the corridor where they reached Sickbay. The Ensign escorted the injured ones inside where they were quickly treated for their injuries and released. The Yeoman then brought the 10 refugees to Holodeck 1 where he created a bunk-room per the Doctor’s suggestion.

Ens Garcia: This is where you will be staying with the other children coming up from New Bajor. That way you are all together. Our ship’s Counselor will be here shortly and she will keep you company until I return with another batch from the surface.

Tapping his Combadge, Luis called for LtCmdr Ho who was in Sickbay while the children were having their injuries healed up by Dermal Regenerators.

Ens Garcia: Ensign Garcia to Counselor Ho! I have brought the refugees to Holodeck One where I have created a bunk-room for all of them! Dr. Tudismaque suggested this was a good thing to do so they do not feel separated in a time they would want to stay together! I need to return to Transporter Room One to collect the next batch of survivors from New Bajor, so this would be a good opportunity to talk with the children!

Waiting on a response from LtCmdr Ho, Ens Garcia watched as the children he escorted to Holodeck 1 walked into the large comfortable looking room with 20 bunk-beds in there. There were 10 bunk-beds along the 2 walls making 40 beds in total. This would facilitate the first group of refugees from New Bajor. As the children entered the Holodeck with Luis, they quickly picked out which beds they wanted and began to shed their wet clothing and put on the dry robes that were hanging on the bedposts of each bunk-bed. Before Ens Garcia could leave, he waited on the Counselor to arrive so the children would not have to be alone while Luis returned to Transporter Room 1 to collect another group of survivors.

Sickbay - Deck 4  Reply with quote

As Kunti was waiting in Sickbay for more children to see get treated, she heard Ens Garcia call to her with another suggestion. What the Yeoman proposed was a very good idea suggested by Dr. Tudismaque. LtCmdr Ho tapped her Combadge to respond to the Ensign before leaving Sickbay for Holodeck 1 which was located on Deck 3.

Lt. Commander Ho: Counselor Ho here! I'm on my way, Ensign! See you soon!

The Counselor left Sickbay and quickly walked to the Turbolift and took it up one deck. Exiting the lift, Kunti followed the corridor to Holodeck 1 and saw that the doors were already open and the children were inside, already changed out of their wet clothes and into dry robes to keep them warm. Walking up to the Yeoman, LtCmdr Ho let him know that he could resume his duties in Transporter Room 1 on Deck 4.

Lt. Commander Ho: I'm here Luis, you can head down to Transporter Room One now. I'll watch over the children.

Kunti waited on the Yeoman to respond before saying anything to the young refugees sitting on the beds they've chosen. They still looked frightened from the scare they all went through down on New Bajor. Not to mention there was a very good chance they were all orphans due to the Xenomorph infestation on their planet. Losing their parents in such a horrible way was going to take a lot out of them, so the best thing they could do is relax and talk about their fears and understand they are safe here aboard Whitestar.

Luis was happy to hear that Counselor Ho was on her way and it did not take her long to arrive! As the Counselor entered the Holodeck, Ens Garcia greeted her with a wide smile as he responded.

Ens Garcia: Thank you for coming so quickly, Counselor Ho! Let me introduce you to the children before I return to Transporter Room One.

The Yeoman clapped his hands together to get the attention of all the children sitting on their chosen beds.

Ens Garcia: Hey everyone! This is Counselor Kunti Ho, she is here to watch after you while I return to the Transporter Room to get more of your friends down on New Bajor. As soon as I come back you will have ten more bunk mates to relax with. I will see all of you then...

At the end of the Ensign's statement to the child refugees, he quickly left Holodeck 1 and went to the Turbolift and took it down to Deck 4. Moving with haste, Luis jogged down the corridor to Transporter Room 1 and entered to find the XO and Dr. Tudismaque waiting for the next group of children to beam up.

Ens Garcia: I am back! The first group of refugees have been cleared by your Medical Staff, Doctor! Now they are in the bunk-room I made on Holodeck One, Counselor Ho is there keeping them company and providing supervision if necessary. I am ready for the next group, Commander Ashborn!

The Yeoman stood along the bulkhead wall in Transporter Room 1 and waited on the next group to beam up now that Cmdr Cypher, Ens Wilson and the case with the array in it had already went down to the surface. Luis was wondering how that was going down at the extraction site. The Ensign hoped all was going well for them down there and the Xenomorphs were not alerted to their presence.
