The Ensign looked up at the tall female Counselor and explained what he needed from her. Jeremy hoped during the time LtCmdr Arrayah spent with the children, she would’ve been able to discover more about their situation on the planet below, as well as the location of their parents.

Ens McKenna: Well, Counselor Arrayah, Captain Calzada is expecting a report on the status of these children and where their parents are located, and he’s expecting it from me. So if you let me know what the child refugees told you, I can add it to my report to the Captain.

The Yeoman stood there waiting for the Counselor to fill him in on what the children told her while she was alone with them beside their beds as LtCmdr Arrayah tucked them in after they finished eating their bowls of soup. Jeremy was hoping for good news that he could pass on to Capt Calzada, that way the Captain would be pleased with the hard work the Ensign was doing here in the Holodeck.

The tall and gracious woman looked down at Yeoman McKenna and smiled as she reported to him all that she learned from the children she helped get comfortable in their beds. All of the younglings were very grateful to be aboard Oriskany, and ecstatic to be off New Bajor where it became a living nightmare for them all.

Lt. Commander Arrayah: From what the children have told me, they were all sent to hide in the catacombs in the mountains by the extraction site. The children were told by their parents to stay there until help arrived from orbit. The Administrator of New Rakantha’s son led them all below the surface to where they hid until they were contacted. Most of their parents remained in the city to fight the Xenomorphs from taking over, while some others went into the power facility to rescue those who had been taken. Unfortunately, none of the adults that went into the facility were ever seen again. Same went for the adults in the city; there’s been no contact with any of them. So it looks like we’re going to have a shipload of orphaned refugees to bring back to Starbase 34.

The Counselor remained beside the Ensign and Dr. Jovic and waited on Jeremy to respond to everything he had heard regarding the children from New Bajor. Arrayah knew the young Yeoman had to report everything he was just told to Capt Calzada, so the Lieutenant Commander kept quiet until the Ensign could take care of that task as well. Arrayah didn’t want to prevent Jeremy from doing what was expected of him by the Captain. In this situation, Yeoman McKenna had quite a lot to do for such a young lad.

Jeremy nodded and smiled up at LtCmdr Arrayah as he absorbed all the information she gave him regarding the children that were beamed up from the extraction site on New Bajor. The Ensign was sad to hear they lost their parents in the power facility and hoped the child refugees could be reunited with family once they relocated to SB34 or perhaps when they were delivered to relatives living on Bajor. Tapping his Combadge, the Yeoman called to Capt Calzada to inform him of the status of the occupants of Holodeck 1 so far.

Ens McKenna: McKenna to Captain Calzada! According to Dr. Jovic the children are dehydrated and malnourished, but I made them Bajoran Alphabet Soup and they’re enjoying that. Counselor Arrayah informed me the last time they saw their parents was before they hid in the catacombs. They said their parents and/or guardians were going to the power facility to rescue those that were trapped by the Xenomorphs, but they never heard back from them again. So it looks like we’re going to be getting a large quantity of orphaned child refugees to bring back to Starbase 34. I think we’re ready for another group of forty, Captain! We’ll be standing by here in Holodeck One, Sir!

The Yeoman watched as the children who were finished with their soup began to lay in the bunk-beds and fall asleep. It wouldn’t be long before there would be 40 more refugees beaming up from the surface of New Bajor. Jeremy waited alongside Dr. Jovic and LtCmdr Arrayah to hear back from the Captain up on the Bridge. Ens McKenna knew Capt Calzada would respond quickly and they would be getting more children very shortly. The Holodeck could comfortably hold another 80 children before they would have to use another Holodeck to create another 120 beds. Jeremy would be ready when the time came to expand on their hospitality to the refugees from New Bajor.

The Captain was waiting patiently for Yeoman McKenna’s report and was pleased when it finally arrived as David heard Jeremy’s voice through the Combadge on his tunic. Listening to what the Ensign had to say, Capt Calzada prepared to instruct LtCmdr Boffi to transport another 40 children up from the surface of the planet below them.

Capt Calzada: Thank you for your report, Mr. McKenna! Please standby to receive another forty children, to be followed by another set of forty as soon as they’re cleared to beam up! Calzada out!

David looked towards the Ops Station and gave the order to LtCmdr Boffi to get the next group of refugees up from New Bajor.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Boffi, transport the next group of children up to Holodeck One as soon as they’re ready. Let Captain Lopez know to get another group ready to beam up as soon as possible, and for him to contact us when they’re set, that way we can transport them to the Holodeck as well.

The CO remained in the Captain’s Chair on the Bridge and awaited confirmation from LtCmdr Boffi the next group of children was safely in Holodeck 1. David was curious how long it was going to take MCpt Lopez to ready another group of children down at the extraction site so they could beam up to Oriskany. Capt Calzada had a feeling the ease of the situation wasn’t going to last once the Xenomorphs figured out there was a large group of prey standing around in the rain waiting to escape their certain fate of becoming the victims. The faster David could get the children off the surface, the faster they could reach capacity and pass the torch to the next vessel of the fleet of ships in orbit above New Rakantha.

Michaelangelo contacted the surface regarding there being another 40 refugees ready to beam up and as soon at LtCmdr Boffi was given clearance by the Marines at the extraction site, the Ops Officer began the energizing process and beamed the children up to Holodeck 1, where they could be attended to by Dr. Jovic, Counselor Arrayah and Yeoman McKenna.

Lt. Commander Boffi: The next group of forty children has been transported to Holodeck One, Captain. Awaiting confirmation from Ensign McKenna they all arrived safely. As soon as I do, I’ll contact Captain Lopez and inform him that we’re ready for another batch of forty refugees, Sir.

The Chief Operations Officer remained steadfast at his console, waiting on Ens McKenna to call up to the Bridge and let everyone know the latest group of child refugees has made it aboard Oriskany. Michaelangelo was already getting the Transporter ready to beam up another group of children while anticipating the call from the Yeoman. As soon as MCpt Lopez informed LtCmdr Boffi the next group of 40 was ready to beam up, the Ops Officer would transport them up to Holodeck 1. Making the total in the Holodeck 120, which was the maximum amount of occupants for this situation. Next up would be Holodeck 2!

While standing there with Dr. Jovic and Counselor Arrayah, Jeremy heard the response from Capt Calzada regarding the arrival of another 40 refugees to be transported into Holodeck 1. Standing clear of the open area, the 3 of them waited only a few moments before 40 wet children appeared before them. The Ensign tapped his Combadge and let the Bridge know the children arrived safely.

Ens McKenna: McKenna to Bridge, the forty children just arrived all wet and unhappy! But that’s why we’re here! We’ll get them changed into the dry robes and get them fed as well. Plus the Doctor and the Counselor will be able to examine them for any injuries that need immediate attention.

The Yeoman helped the smaller children remove their wet clothing and put on the warm robes as Dr. Jovic looked them over. Once the refugees were sitting in their beds, Jeremy brought over bowls of the Bajoran Alphabet Soup for the boys and girls to consume. In a matter of moments, all their frowns were turned upside down and the children now had happy smiles on their faces.

David heard his Yeoman’s report and was happy to hear that all was going well with the children being transported up from the surface. Looking over to the Ops Station, Capt Calzada spoke to LtCmdr Boffi regarding the beaming up of another group of children to Holodeck One.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Boffi, we just got our confirmation from Ensign McKenna. Go ahead and contact Captain Lopez on the surface and let him know we’re ready for another group of refugees.

The next thing the Captain did was contact Ens McKenna to let him know there was about to be another group of children beaming directly to Holodeck 1 from New Bajor.

Capt Calzada: Calzada to Ensign McKenna! I’m glad the children from New Bajor are in such capable hands! Prepare to receive another group from the surface! Then let me know when you have Holodeck Two ready for the next group of refugees from New Bajor!

The CO waited to hear back from both LtCmdr Boffi and Ens McKenna as he remained sitting in his chair on the Bridge. David was a little uncomfortable with the idea of having so many children aboard Oriskany. The last thing the Captain expected was to turn the Sovereign Class Starship into a kind of Magic School Bus ferrying several hundred children through space. But the refugees needed emergency assistance and the last thing on Capt Calzada’s mind would be to refuse to help these kids out during such a horrible tiime in their lives.

Doing what Capt Calzada instructed, Michaelangelo sent a message down to the ISSCV at the extraction site requesting the readiness of another group of 40 children. The Lieutenant Commander let the Captain know he was waiting for a response from MCpt Lopez.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Message sent down to Captain Lopez, Sir. Waiting for confirmation of the next group of refugees being ready for transport up to Oriskany.

As the Chief Ops Officer waited to hear back from MCpt Lopez, LtCmdr Boffi got the Transporter program ready to beam another 40 children up from the surface and directly to Holodeck 1. That would put 120 total in that Holodeck and the next group of children would be going to Holodeck 2 until that one reached 120. This would continue until all the Holodecks were filled with 120 children each.

The Captain heard LtCmdr Boffi's reply and waited to hear when MCpt Lopez responded. As soon as David heard word the children were ready to beam up, he would give the order for Michaelangelo to beam the refugees directly to Holodeck 1. The Captain wanted to let his Yeoman know the children from New Bajor would be on their way to him any moment now, as well.

Capt Calzada: Calzada to Ensign McKenna! Your next group of refugees will be coming up in moments, so be ready for them!

The CO waited on hearing a confirmation from his Yeoman that he was ready to receive the next group of refugees in Holodeck 1, which would reach the maximum occupancy. This would require Jeremy to setup Holodeck 2 for the next 120 refugees and so forth. David knew they would have no problem holding at least 500 refugees in the available Holodecks, he just wasn't sure if young Mr. McKenna would be able to handle all of those children on his own, even with the assistance of Dr. Jovic and Counselor Arrayah. If the Yeoman felt overwhelmed, Jeremy could request assistance from the enlisted crew members that were familiar with working with children.

Jeremy heard the Captain, both times and responded to him immediately! The Ensign was in the middle of making sure the area was clear for the next group of children to arrive. When it was completely devoid of objects and people, the Yeoman tapped his Combadge to comply with Capt Calzada's order to inform him when Holodeck 1 was ready for more refugees.

Ens McKenna: McKenna here! Holodeck One is ready for the next batch of child refugees to arrive, Sir! As soon as they're all set in here, I'll run over to Holodeck Two and get it ready for another hundred and twenty, Captain!

The Ensign made sure none of the children were going to run across the open area as it would pose a problem for incoming refugees.

Ens McKenna: Attention everyone! The last group of forty will be coming up shortly, so keep this area clear! After that, we'll be taking on another hundred and twenty in Holodeck Two! We'll be doing this until we reach our maximum occupancy of six hundred! Then we'll be passing the torch over to the USS Sutherland! Once they're full, the torch passes to the USS Infiniti, then the USS Explorer and USS Eureka will be wrapping it all up!

After giving the children the explanation of events, the Yeoman stood clear of the area as well. The main reason behind giving an explanation of what was happening was for rumor control. Jeremy knew that if kids were unaware of what was happening around them, they immediately started trying to rationalize it amongst themselves. Which could install panic in the other, younger children. So the Ensign knew he did the right thing in this situation.
