Astrometrics Lab - Deck 4  Reply with quote

The Commander was looking forward to seeing all the objects in the Geological Lab with all the different minerals and rock formations from around the galaxy. Ulric was also interested in seeing the precious stones that were collected as well. Looking down towards the Ensign, Cmdr Sladek smiled and motioned his hand towards the door of the Astrometrics Lab.

Cmdr Sladek: Lead the way, Gus!

This line of science was fascinating to the Commander, Ulric knew he could spend hours in there. Growing up in the Nordic highlands, the XO saw all kinds of formations of both glaciers and mountains. But nothing there was like what he was expecting to see the in the Geological Lab.

Gus did as Cmdr Sladek told him and lead the way down the corridor to the Geological Lab. Once they entered, before them in transparent containers were all the different geodes from all the different worlds Eureka had been to in the vessel's journeys in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.

Ens Montoya: Here we are, Commander! These are all the geodes we've collected and have been studying. We got them from all the different worlds we've been to in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. It's quite an extensive collection, in my opinion, Sir! What do you think of them?

The Yeoman continued gazing at the amazing spectrum of colors in the geodes under the clear containers which had illuminators above them. Gus wondered what Cmdr Sladek thought of each geode and if he was just as amazed as Ens Montoya was. Some of the most colorful ones were still radioactive, so they had to remain in their protective coverings. Next to Cetacean Ops, this was another one of the labs Gus enjoyed spending time in.

Ulric looked to the Ensign and gave him a nod of agreement!

Cmdr Sladek: Yes, Gus! This is one of the most fascinating labs we’ve been to. I love how beautiful and vibrant the colors are. What’s up next, Ensign?

Even though the Commander could spend hours just staring at the geodes, the XO wanted to continue with the tour. But, just like how Ulric wanted one of the comet photos for the terminal in his cabin, Cmdr Sladek was wondering if this lab would allow him a sample of a geode for his desk.

The Ensign was a little surprised Cmdr Sladek was so quick to want to leave the Geological Lab. There was so many other things besides the geodes to look at here, like all the precious gems and jewels they've collected over their travels. But if the Commander wanted to go to the Arboretum next, it was up to him.

Ens Montoya: Our next stop is the Arboretum. There are many plants and other forms of vegetation in there you may have seen before, and others you probably have not. Captain Bennet kept that area full of safe samples of growth from all the different places we've been to, back when she was the First Officer of Eureka.

The Yeoman led the way to the Arboretum which was a very peaceful place to meditate and relax if someone did not want to make use of the Holodecks. This was another area that Gus enjoyed, just like the Ensign found being in Cetacean Ops so serene. As they walked into the Arboretum, Ens Montoya showed Cmdr Sladek all around the interior. Gus pointed out all of the flowers, plants and trees that were truly beautiful to behold.

Feeling the cool breeze in the arboretum, Ulric could really enjoy this! The Commander didn’t realize how many trees and plants of all different shapes and sizes could fill this area of Eureka. Ulric wondered if any were poisonous or used for medicinal purposes. Cmdr Sladek would have to ask Dr. Edison whether or not they use medicinal plants to heal the sick and wounded. The Commander liked seeing all the different colors in all the flowers, it’s like peering into a kaleidoscope! Looking at the leaves under magnification, Ulric was fascinated by all of the micro-shapes of the leaves and plants.

Cmdr Sladek: This area of Eureka is absolutely fascinating, Gus! This looks like an excellent place to relax and read a book. Sometimes the time limits on Holodecks can make enjoying oneself restrictive. This will surely be my place of solitude when I need somewhere to just relax with my thoughts.

The XO walked throughout the arboretum, inhaling the air from the surrounding trees and flowers, enjoying the beautiful scent from all of the vegetative life in there. This was very different from a Holodeck, in that none of the senses were being fooled by artificial fragrances and sights created in there. This was the real-deal when it came to being in a place of silent lucidity! Cmdr Sladek couldn’t wait for the opportunity to grab his PADD and come in here later with perhaps the roster of Eureka and read the files on the crew of this California Class Starship.

Gus enjoyed seeing how much Cmdr Sladek was enjoying the Arboretum as much as he did. The Ensign had the same feelings about this lab as much as he loved Cetacean Ops. Gus really enjoyed giving tours of Eureka to new members of the crew, even though he's done it several times since he was given his first tour over a year ago, it was always a new experience for the Ensign each time.

Ens Montoya: I'm really glad you are enjoying the Arboretum, Commander! I love it here too! The next lab is Archaeology, where they study the remains of ancient civilizations we come across. Let me know when you want to go over there and check things out, Sir.

The Yeoman waited on the XO's reply on whether he wanted to stay in the Arboretum longer, or if he wished to move on to the Archaeology Lab. Either choice would be fine with Gus, since being on the tour was always enjoyable to Ens Montoya. Plus it would be a considerate amount of time before they would be needed on the Bridge.

The Commander found a place to sit and decided to relax for a while since nothing was really going on that required his attention. Ulric looked over towards Gus and thought it best to dismiss the young Ensign for now, since he wanted to just take a nap under a tree and listen to the non-technological sounds around him.

Cmdr Sladek: I think I'm going to relax here for a while, Gus. Why don't you go do whatever you want and when I need to continue the tour, I'll let you know.

The XO laid back on the ground and folded his arms behind his head and sighed. It was truly beautiful in the Arboretum, truly a masterpiece of floristry, tree growth and shrubbery. As the Yeoman exited the magnificent display of arboriculture, the Commander was left in wonderful peace and quiet so he could rest.

Gus left the Commander in peace so he could relax in the Arboretum, this way the Ensign could go check in at Sickbay to see how Capt Sull was doing. Walking over to the Turbolift, the Yeoman entered and took the lift down to Deck 8 where Gus exited. It was a short walk to the Medical Center of Eureka, which the Ensign entered sheepishly. Seeing the Doctor over by the Biobed where Capt Sull was sleeping, the Yeoman slowly approached and spoke softly so he would not disturb anybody.

Ens Montoya: Hello, Doctor. How is Captain Sull doing?

While waiting for Dr. Edison to reply, Gus looked over towards Lt. JG Kaaha, who was sitting by his parents that were still asleep after their surgical procedures. Gus was glad the Lieutenant JG was able to reunite with his family, the only one left to make it a full reunification would be for his younger brother Jerdan to be present. If there was no changes with Capt Sull, Gus would go over to Lt. JG Kaaha and ask him how his parents were doing.

Sickbay - Deck 8  Reply with quote

The Doctor heard Ens Montoya enter Sickbay and smiled at the Yeoman’s pre-pubescent voice coming from behind him. Maxwell had been working on Capt Sull and had been noticing the brain’s cogniscient damage being repaired by the Symbiote lifeform inside the Captain’s abdomen. Because only Capt Bennet was aware of Capt Sull having a Trill Symbiote inside her, Dr. Edison did not want to reveal this to the Yeoman without permission from either of the Captains.

Cmdr Edison: Captain Sull is doing very well, better than expected, to be exact. As a matter of fact, at the rate the Captain is healing, she’ll be awake very soon! Lieutenant Kaaha’s parents should be waking up shortly, as well. If you have some time, see about getting some accommodations for Charrothe’s parents. They can rest more comfortably there.

The Chief Medical Officer carefully watched over Capt Sull to see when she would be regaining consciousness. So far Dr. Edison’s medical diagnosis of the Captain no longer listed her as Critical. Which was a very good thing, in the Doctor’s opinion. It was only a matter of time now before their former CO would wake up and wonder why she was on a Biobed in Sickbay. Occasionally, Maxwell looked over at Mr. Orte and his wife who were recovering under the watchful eye of Lt. JG Kaaha. They would be awake soon as well, so Ens Montoya could then escort them all to a comfortable cabin when the time came.

Gus was pleased to hear that Capt Sull was doing so well. The Ensign wondered what would happen when the Captain was released from Sickbay. Would Capt Sull be able to return to duty, if so...did this means Capt Bennet would be demoted back to Commander and if that happened, what would become of Cmdr Sladek?

Ens Montoya: That's great, Doctor! Can I use the terminal in your office to make arrangements for a cabin for Lieutenant Kaaha's parents? That way I can escort them there after you release them from your care, of course.

The Yeoman looked over at Lt. JG Kaaha watching over his parents so diligently and hoped they would wake up feeling a lot better, now that they no longer had Xenomorph embryos in their bodies. Gus was still curious regarding what would happen to Cmdr Sladek if Capt Sull returned to duty. Would the Commander be transferred back to Sutherland? Ens Montoya would just have to wait and see how the situation played out.
