Holodeck 3 - Deck 10  Reply with quote

When the children arrived in Holodeck 3, they were completely saturated! They stood together in a huddled mass as they looked around the interior of their present location. Each one of the child refugees immediately checked their hands and feet to make sure all their fingers and toes were accounted for, since they heard the voice of Oriskany’s Chief Operations Officer over the Ensign’s Combadge. Jeremy smiled as he called out to LtCmdr Boffi on the Bridge…

Ens McKenna: All fingers and toes accounted for, Mr. Boffi! Other than being wet, they’re all here! Thank you! I’ll let you know when we’re ready in Holodeck 4, Sir!

Jeremy looked over to the children, dripping on the deck and increased the volume of his voice so all the children could hear him clearly.

Ens McKenna: Hey everyone, welcome aboard the USS Oriskany! You’ll be staying here in this room until we arrive at Starbase 34 so you all can be reunited with family members from Bajor who are already on their way to the base! Change out of those wet clothes and use the towels to dry off and then you can put on the robes! Counselor Arrayah will be serving hot Bajoran alphabet soup to all of you! If you would like seconds, just let us know! Afterwards you can get some sleep in the warm beds I had the computer make for all of you! Dr. Jovic will be coming by each of you to scan your bodies with her Medical Tricorder for any anomalies! That is pretty much it, so get out of those saturated clothes and dry off! The Holodeck will remove the moisture from the floor, so don’t worry about mopping it up! My name is Ensign Jeremy McKenna, Yeoman of the USS Oriskany! If you need anything at all, just ask either Dr. Jovic, Counselor Arrayah or myself!

The Ensign smiled at Dr. Jovic and Counselor Arrayah then nodded towards the children as they were changing out of their wet clothing and toweling off in the nude before getting their robes on. It was now time for them to start making the child refugees as comfortable as possible in their temporary lodging before arriving at SB34.

Ens McKenna: Looks like we got our work cut out for us, Doctor. I’m sure they’re going to enjoy the soup, Counselor Arrayah. I’ll start serving them with you, so it won’t take as long to get food in their bellies.

The Yeoman walked over to the serving carts with bowls of hot soup on each tray and began serving them to the children along with the Counselor. While LtCmdr Arrayah and Ens McKenna served the hungry refugees, Dr. Jovic began her job of using her medical equipment to check over each child to make sure they were medically sound and free from any Xenomorph embryos, in the unlikely event they got exposed before leaving the extraction site where the Starfleet Marines were securing the area with Infiniti’s Medical Staff checking for the rancid creatures in their young bodies.

Michaelangelo smiled at the response Jeremy gave him regarding the 120 child refugees arriving safely in Holodeck 3. Again, LtCmdr Boffi heard the stifled laughter behind him from the other officers on the Bridge. Before closing the open channel to the Ensign, the Lieutenant Commander let Mr. McKenna know his message to the Bridge was acknowledged.

Lt. Commander Boffi: You got it, Mr. McKenna! I'll be up here at the Ops Station on the Bridge, waiting for you to inform me Holodeck Four is ready for one hundred and twenty drenched kiddies. Until then, take care of those little guys on Holodeck Three. Boffi out!

The Chief Ops Officer sent a message down to MCpt Lopez to let him know they've got a little bit of time before the next 120 refugees will be transporting up to the USS Oriskany. That way the Marine Detachment Commander could prepare the children properly for their trip up to the safety and security of the Sovereign Class Starship.

As LtCmdr Arrayah gave a bowl of soup to each child now dressed in a long warm robe, the Counselor made small talk with them to inquire how they were feeling regarding the situation they had been in. It was apparent that they missed the rest of their families and were terribly frightened while they waited to beam up to Oriskany. But that was to be expected after the ordeal they had been through. When the Counselor had a moment, she informed Ens McKenna on how the children were doing emotionally.

Lt. Commander Arrayah: Ensign, the children miss the members of their families that are still down on the surface and were very scared while they waited to be transported up to the ship. But they feel safe now and they are quite happy to be here aboard Oriskany.

The Counselor continued giving bowls of soup to the refugees so they could warm their insides with the nutritional contents the Yeoman added to the recipe he seemed to of created on his own. Arrayah thought Ens McKenna was quite ingenious to create something that suited the taste of all these children and still contain the nutrients needed to nourish their young bodies. The Counselor had a feeling if the refugees were just given vegetables they would have balked at them, being the young children they were.

Hearing that the child refugees were feeling safe and were happy to be aboard Oriskany left Jeremy with a very warm feeling inside, and as for their families left behind on the surface of New Bajor…that was another story altogether. Even if they survived being trapped by the Xenomorphs, after the Genesis Device was detonated down there, not a single life form would survive. New Bajor would be a beautiful planet once again, devoid of any of those hideous creatures.

Ens McKenna: That’s good to hear, Counselor. I’m glad they’re feeling safe and happy, but I don’t know what to say about the families that were left behind. After the Genesis Device goes off, there’s not going to be anything left alive down there.

Tapping his Combadge, Jeremy responded to LtCmdr Boffi at the Ops Station on the Bridge.

Ens McKenna: McKenna to Bridge! I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we move on to Holodeck Four. As for the children here in Holodeck Three, they’ve been fed and they’re feeling safe and very happy to be here aboard Oriskany. McKenna out!

The Yeoman watched as all the children sat on their bunks, eating their Bajoran Alphabet Soup that was made with the Counselor’s assistance. Ens McKenna was quite pleased with the way things were going with the evacuation and hoped the children waiting to beam up would be safe under the protection of the Marines from Infiniti and Whitestar. Jeremy hoped beyond hope that no Xenomorphs would attack the extraction site and bring harm to anyone down there.

Michaelangelo was watching over his Ops Console like a hawk, when the incoming hail came in from Sutherland. See that it was directed to Capt Calzada, the Lieutenant Commander turned to look at the Captain from over his shoulder and informed the CO about the incoming transmission.

Lt. Commander Boffi: Captain, there's an incoming message for you from Sutherland, should I put it on the Main Viewscreen, Sir?

The Chief Ops Officer waited on a reply from Capt Calzada so Michaelangelo could tap the necessary button to bring the incoming message up on the Main Viewscreen. Not knowing what the message entailed, LtCmdr Boffi was understandably curious regarding its contents. Something in his gut told him to prepare for bad news, so the Lieutenant Commander did just that.

David looked over towards Michaelangelo and nodded his head, regarding the request to put the incoming message from Sutherland on the Main Viewscreen.

Capt Calzada: By all means, Mr. Boffi!

Less than a moment passed as LtCmdr Boffi hit the button to transfer the call from Sutherland, so everyone on the Bridge could see it. The image appeared and it was VAdm Martinelli sitting in the CO's chair on the Command Deck of the Nebula Class Starship.

VAdm Martinelli: Vice Admiral Martinelli to Infiniti and Oriskany. There's a horde of Xenomoprhs rapidly approaching the extraction site, so we'll need to move quickly if we're going to save all of those children on the surface. Captain Calzada, as soon as your finished beaming up the last of the refugees your ship can handle, inform Commodore Carpathia so they can begin the atmospheric penetration process of getting down there and beaming up as many of the pre-screened refugees as they can. Eureka will be doing the same, as well as Sutherland, when the time comes. The Wildcards will be protecting the extraction site as best they can, so in the event Xenomorphs get by them, the Marines at the site itself will engage the infernal beasts. If there's any refugees leftover, Admiral Arayuss will pick them up with Explorer. Once all the children are safe, we're to leave the system as soon as possible and head for Starbase 34. Explorer will remain behind to use the Genesis Device and depart before it detonates. We can do this if we all work together, so let's get to it! That is all! Sutherland out!

The screen went back to the horizon of New Bajor and the star field above as David tapped his Combadge to contact Ens McKenna down below decks making the Holodecks hospitable for the refugees. With the amount of children being transported up from the extraction site being increased, Oriskany should be almost at full capacity now.

Capt Calzada: Calzada to Ensign McKenna! What's the status on the refugees? Are we at capacity yet?

The CO waited on Jeremy's response from below decks to find out how soon the Captain would have before he needed to contact Como Carpathia and let him know to take Infiniti into the atmosphere, so they wouldn't need to use the Transporter Enhancers to beam up the refugees from the extraction site. Being the XO of Infiniti for years gave David very good insight to what the Intrepid Class Starship was capable of. But Capt Calzada was still going to be concerned for the safety of the family aboard Infiniti that he left in order to become Commanding Officer of the USS Oriskany.

The Ensign watched as the last batch of child refugees beamed into Holodeck 5 and once the Transporter effect was complete, Jeremy could see how relieved they all were to be away from the extraction site. Hearing Capt Calzada over his Combadge requesting the status of the incoming refugees, the Ensign responded.

Ens McKenna: McKenna here, Captain! We just reached capacity now, Sir! We've got five hundred children aboard, and there's one hundred and twenty in each Holodeck Deck! I'm responding from Holodeck 5 and the children here are all being cared for by Dr. Jovic, Counselor Arrayah, and myself! Unless you need me for something else, Captain?

The youthful Yeoman waited to hear anything further from the Captain, while doing so, Jeremy assisted in giving the children the Bajoran alphabet soup and helped those who needed a little assistance changing out of their wet clothes and into the dry robes the Ensign provided for them all. From what Jeremy could tell, the children were very appreciative to their rescuers, but were still sad about family members they would never see again.

The Captain was pleased to hear that they were at capacity now with child refugees. David couldn't think of anything else for Jeremy to be doing, so he let the Yeoman know he could remain with the children from New Bajor for now.

Capt Calzada: That's great to hear, Ensign! I don't have anything else for you to do at the moment, so remain where you are and keep the children comfortable for now! I'll contact you if something comes up! Calzada out!

David turned to the Chief Operations Officer and ordered LtCmdr Boffi to contact Infiniti and let them know Oriskany was at capacity and Como Carpathia was up next.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Boffi, hail Infiniti and let them know they've got the ball! Oriskany is at capacity, so we'll be moving off to a higher orbit! Send it right away, Michaelangelo! We're in a hurry!

The CO waited for LtCmdr Boffi to send the message to Infiniti so Como Carpathia would know it was now time for him to take his ship into the atmosphere of the planet so they could hover above the extraction site. That way the Intrepid Class vessel could start beaming children up directly from where the Marines were located. David really hoped the plan given by VAdm Martinelli would work and they had enough time to get all of those kids off New Bajor before the Xenomorph horde overran the entire extraction area.

LtCmdr Boffi did exactly as Capt Calzada commanded and hailed Infiniti and sent along the message the Captain had given to Michaelangelo. Once the message was sent and received by Infiniti's Ops Officer on duty, LtCmdr Boffi informed Capt Calzada that his orders were followed and Infiniti was now aware of Oriskany's situation.

Lt. Commander Boffi: I've hailed Infiniti and sent the message, Captain! They've acknowledged and have been made aware of our situation, Sir!

The Chief Ops Officer waited to see if there were any other orders to come from the CO as LtCmdr Boffi maintained all of the systems on his console. Michaelangelo knew the Captain would want Oriskany moved to a higher orbit, so the Lieutenant Commander made the preparations necessary for it.

Now that Infiniti was notified that Oriskany was at capacity, David knew it was time to get his ship to a higher orbit above New Bajor. Looking towards the Flight Control Console were LtCmdr Centares was seated, the Captain issued the order to bring the ship to a higher orbit.

Capt Calzada: Mr. Centares, move us up to a higher orbit and plot a course for Starbase 34. As soon as we get word from Admiral Arayuss, we'll be returning to our home port at our best possible speed.

The CO waited on the Chief Flight Control Officer to follow through on his orders to get Oriskany out of the low orbit they were currently in and move to one that got the Sovereign Class vessel out of the way. David was becoming very prideful of his new crew. They were extremely efficient, like the crew of Infiniti, only this time Capt Calzada was in command of the ship.
