Ready Room - Deck 1  Reply with quote

While Aeryck leaned back in the chair at the desk in the Ready Room, he listened to Capt Bennet tell him about another perspective on the plan to get the children off New Bajor.

Capt Bennet: Thank you for taking the incoming message, Admiral! Captain Sull had an awesome idea! She believes Infiniti can be used like a lightning rod while hovering above the extraction site! Therefore Infiniti can act as a massive Transporter Enhancer to beam up entire groups of refugees directly to the ships waiting in orbit. That way the vessels not equipped for atmospheric penetration can remain in a safe location above the planet. What do you think, Sir?

Only a few moments went by before the Admiral replied to Capt Bennet...

Adm Arayuss: That's a great idea, Captain! I'll implement it right away! Infiniti is already descending into the atmosphere above the extraction site, so I'll contact them now!

Before signing off from Eureka, Aeryck wanted to hear how Capt Sull was doing...

Capt Sull: It's a small suggestion, Admiral... But it would enable Infiniti to remain stationed in hover mode and still transfer the refugees to those waiting in orbit... But, the final say is yours, Admiral. Effectively, Admiral, the fleet would be acting as giant transporter enhancers in space...

The Admiral was a little dismayed that Capt Sull failed to answer how she was doing, and instead was belittling her idea and making it sound like if something went wrong, it would be on Adm Arayuss. Instead of pointing out to the Captain that all he did was ask how she was doing, the Admiral simply responded with...

Adm Arayuss: Understood, Captain Sull! I will be contacting Commodore Carpathia now! Arayuss out!

The Admiral sat upright in the chair, then stood up from behind the desk and quickly exited the Ready Room. While standing in the middle of the Bridge, Adm Arayuss ordered Ens Toretto to hail Infiniti immediately.

Adm Arayuss: Mia, hail Infiniti right away! I need to speak to Commodore Carpathia!

Ens Toretto: Aye, Sir!

The Ensign quickly did as the Admiral ordered and sent a hail to Infiniti which was currently passing through the turbulent atmosphere above the extraction area. While waiting for Infiniti to acknowledge, Mia listened for any other orders to come from Adm Arayuss. It was obvious to everyone on the Bridge there was going to be a change of plan, which had yet to be announced by the CinC. But since the Admiral was on the Bridge, they would all be finding out very soon.

Main Engineering - Deck 21  Reply with quote

While David was monitoring the Warp Core output levels, he heard VAdm Martinelli instruct him to prepare to take Sutherland into the atmosphere of the planet below them! With a ship this size, it was going to be a very difficult feat! LtCmdr Ellis went to his office that was just outside Main Engineering on Deck 21 to bring up all the specifications of Nebula Class Starships and taking them into atmospheric conditions.

Upon the Lieutenant Commander's findings, David discovered in the manuals that it was highly discouraged to do something like this and clearly not recommended. LtCmdr Ellis had to break it to VAdm Martinelli that it was just not something David was prepared to do with Sutherland. The vessel was just too heavy for the thrusters to keep the ship stabilize in an atmosphere like New Bajor's. The gravity and stormy weather could easily cause Sutherland to drop to the surface and crash land, which was something to avoid.

Tapping the Combadge on his chest, David responded to VAdm Martinelli who was on the Bridge.

Lt. Commander Ellis: Ellis to Admiral Martinelli! Sutherland just wasn't designed to enter atmospheric conditions! We're too massive! It would be like trying to do it with a Galaxy Class, or a Sovereign, even! I don't even think that California Class that recently showed up could do it either! These types of Starships just can't drop into the atmospheres of planets without dire consequences! I'm sorry to say, Sir, I'm no miracle-worker!

The Chief Engineer flopped in his chair and felt defeated. David was well aware of the Intrepid and Defiant Class Starships being able to land, but they were built do do such things and were far more versatile. LtCmdr Ellis knew Infiniti well since he was the Chief Engineer of that Intrepid Class when it was launched from Omega Base to arrive at SB34.

As Aeryck waited for Ens Toretto to hail Infiniti, the Admiral heard the call from LtCmdr Ellis regarding Sutherland's inability to enter an atmosphere safely, let alone drop down to such a low altitude. Adm Arayuss addressed the Chief Engineer in the moments before Como Carpathia and the Bridge of Infiniti filled the Main Viewscreen.

Adm Arayuss: Mr. Ellis, this is Admiral Arayuss. We have come across another plan that may save you the headache of trying to safely bring Sutherland down to the extraction site. Keep your Com-Line open, you'll hear what I tell Commodore Carpathia aboard Infiniti in a few moments.

True to Mia's word, the Ensign put the Commodore on the Main Viewscreen, who was standing on the Bridge of the USS Infiniti. Seeing his longtime friend and colleague, Aeryck smirked as he began speaking to Como Carpathia.

Adm Arayuss: Hey E.J. I've got a new idea for you. While Infiniti is above the extraction site, instead of just beaming up refugees to your ship's capacity, you can use Infiniti's transporter array to work like the enhancers and transport the survivors directly to the ships in orbit. Reason being, both Eureka and Sutherland cannot really get down as low as you can without risk of severe damage to either vessel. After Sutherland and Eureka are at capacity, get yourself filled with refugees as well and get back up here as quickly as possible. Once that's done, I will head over to Explorer and eradicate the Xenomorph problem on New Bajor. So...what say you? Will you do this?

The CinC waited on a reply from his friend of many years, to see if he was up to the challenge. The task should be relatively easy for Infiniti's Chief Engineering to accomplish. From what Aeryck knew of CPO Florenté and the time the young Engineer spent on Infiniti and Event Horizon, Jamie would be eager to take this assignment. But for that to occur, the CO of the Omega Modified Intrepid Class Starship would have to agree to take on this task.

Tony watched the viewscreen as Como Carpathia responded to Adm Arayuss in regard to the plan Capt Sull suggested. The Vice Admiral thought it was a great idea as well since trying to bring Sutherland into the stormy atmosphere of New Bajor was so dangerous.

Como Carpathia: Of course I'll do it, Admiral!

There was no doubt in VAdm Martinelli's mind that E.J. wouldn't do what his closest friend in the fleet would've asked him. Tony looked over at the Admiral to see what he was going to say back in return to the confirmation the Commodore gave him.

The Admiral smiled at the image on the screen of his friend of many years. Aeryck was pleased that E.J. said he would do what was asked of him. Azeri's plan of action had some real merit to it, and the Admiral was very ecstatic with her idea and could not wait to see it in action.

Adm Arayuss: Very good, E.J. This idea came from Captain Sull, aboard Eureka! I analyzed the plan and it definitely holds true! There should not be any problems executing the solution to the situation, so make it so, Commodore!

The CinC motioned for Ens Toretto to close the channel, so Aeryck could speak to VAdm Martinelli regarding the Admiral's departure to Explorer.

Adm Arayuss: Tony, I will be leaving for Explorer as soon as the refugees are beamed up from the surface. In the meantime, I want to transfer command of Sutherland over to you now. That way I do not have to rush through the process when the time comes for me to depart.

While standing on the Bridge, Aeryck called out to the computer to record the transfer of command of Sutherland to VAdm Martinelli.

Adm Arayuss: Computer, transfer all command codes to Vice Admiral Anthony Martinelli, voice authorization - Arayuss, Omega One!

Sutherland-Com: Transfer complete, USS Sutherland is now under the command of Vice Admiral Anthony Martinelli.

Awaiting Tony to complete the transition of command, Aeryck stood there with a welcoming smile on his face. The CinC had much confidence in the Vice Admiral, even though it had been quite some time since Tony commanded a Starship. Adm Arayuss also knew the crew of Sutherland would follow VAdm Martinelli as they did for himself. Since Aeryck had some things to prepare for, he would be going below decks to his Quarters to get ready for his mission to eradicate the population of New Bajor by use of the Genesis Device aboard Explorer.

Tony stood there on the Bridge and smiled towards Adm Arayuss as he finalized the transfer of command of Sutherland to himself. It had been quite a while since VAdm Martinelli had been in command of a Starship, but he knew the task was simple enough for him to get it done. Tony held out his hand to shake the Admiral's as he spoke the words to completely finalize the transfer.

VAdm Martinelli: I relieve you, Admiral Arayuss.

The CO waited for the customary response from the CinC as he noticed an incoming message indicator at the Ops Station flashing. Once Adm Arayuss gave his reply to VAdm Martinelli, Tony would find out who the message was from. Waiting a few moments for the formalization of the transfer of command was important and the Vice Admiral wanted it done correctly.

The Admiral shook the Vice Admiral's hand as he smiled back at him. The time had come for Aeryck to relinquish command of Sutherland over to Tony, who would be be rescuing the refugees as the Admiral beamed aboard Explorer and prepared for the end of the Xenomorph infestation of New Bajor.

Adm Arayuss: I stand relieved.

With the transition being complete, the Admiral walked to the Turbolift and went to the Quarters he was assigned and picked up his travel case. Afterwards, Aeryck tapped his Combadge and called out to the USS Explorer to beam himself over.

Adm Arayuss: Arayuss to Explorer! Beam me over immediately!

In a showering rainbow of sparkling lights, the CinC dematerialized out of the cabin he only used long enough to place his travel case on the floor by the bed. Since Adm Arayuss was off Sutherland, he would be communicating with the ships of the fleet directly through the communications of Explorer.

The Vice Admiral remained standing as he asked Ens Toretto what the message they had just received was, and who was it from. If it was something of vital importance, Tony was already in position to issue orders to the officers on the Bridge.

VAdm Martinelli: Who was that message from, Ensign? Was it anything of profound value?

Mia read the message allowed to the Vice Admiral so that he knew precisely who it was from and what profound value it was.

Ens Toretto: It's from Commodore Carpathia, Sir! The message reads, Sutherland is next to receive refugees from Infiniti. Make preparations for a large number of children to be transported up at one time.

Tony was surprised that it was happening so soon. E.J. was sure efficient when it came to rescuing people, the Vice Admiral thought to himself. Turning towards Lt. JG Russ, the ship's temporarily assigned Yeoman, the CO issued orders to her regarding what they all just heard from Ens Toretto.

VAdm Martinelli: Lieutenant Russ, get below decks and prepare all the areas available to hold the refugees ready! They're all going to be arriving at one time as well, so we need to be synchronized with this! Provide coordinates directly to Ensign Toretto so she can inform Infiniti where to send them! Be on your way, Andrea! This needs to be done quickly!

The Vice Admiral walked back to the Captain's Chair and took a seat. Tony was in command of Sutherland along with its crew and he needed to make sure all his orders were followed. Not that VAdm Martinelli expected any problems from anyone. The only thing Tony was concerned with was whether or not all the refugees were checked for embryos before they were beaming up. This is the last place they needed a random chest-bursting situation to happen.

Andrea immediately rose from the chair in which she was sitting and spoke to VAdm Martinelli in an extremely formal manner that his position aboard Sutherland demanded.

Lt. JG Russ: Aye, Admiral! I'll get right on that, Sir!

Going to the Turbolift, Andrea rode it down to the lower levels of the Nebula Class Starship and got the coordinates using her PADD and forwarded them to Ens Toretto at the Ops Station on the Bridge. The Lieutenant JG went to all the areas that were empty and could easily take on the vast amount of refugees that would be transported up from the surface from the extraction site. Once completed, Lt. JG Russ made sure all the coordinates were forwarded properly to the Ensign. That way Mia could make sure to pass the information on to Infiniti and the children would start materializing at all the available locations aboard Sutherland.

As Mia was monitoring the Ops Station, the Ensign received numerous messages from the PADD held by Lt. JG Russ on the locations for Infiniti to transport the refugees. Ens Toretto transferred all the coordinates to one message and let VAdm Martinelli know they were ready to send to Como Carpathia aboard the USS Infiniti.

Ens Toretto: I have all the coordinates to send to the Commodore, Sir! They're contained in one message I can send over to Infiniti right now!

The Vice Admiral smiled at the efficiency of the officers that served under him, then responded to Ens Toretto.

VAdm Martinelli: Great, Ensign! Go ahead and respond to Commodore Carpathia's message and send along the coordinates of where to transport the refugees aboard Sutherland.

Tony waited as Mia did as she was told and transmitted the response to Infiniti regarding the transportation of the children waiting to be beamed up from the surface of New Bajor.

Ens Toretto: Aye, Sir! Message sent to Infiniti!

VAdm Martinelli: Thank you, Mia! Let Lieutenant Russ know the children should be arriving shortly and to be ready for them!

Ens Toretto: Understood, Admiral!

Mia used her console to notify Lt. JG Russ the refugees would be arriving very shortly and to be ready for them. This way the Lieutenant JG could plan for the arrival of the wet children from the extraction site on New Bajor. The Ensign knew this was something the Yeoman couldn't do alone, so Mia hoped Lt. JG Russ enlisted the aid of other crew members to assist her with getting the areas ready for the refugees.
